Sparker23 Jul 2014 8:39 p.m. PST

I want to be careful in what I say here, as some will know that in the past I have been somewhat curt with others who have bid long and emotional farewells to TMP!

Having been a member since 2007, I leave with much regret but acknowledge that I have had a great time on TMP and learnt a lot from the membership, and I hope in return I have been of some small use with what little I know about wargaming and military history.

It would inappropriate for me to say why I feel it is time to go, but I would emphasise it is absolutely nothing to do with the recent Tango/Armand imbroglio, I consider Armand a friend and welcome his contributions.

If anyone has been interested in following my various batreps and reviews on things Napoleonic, WW2 and Cold War, they will continue to appear on ‘Sparkers Wargaming Blog' which you can find here: link

So, as they say in the Navy: See you around the bazaars!

Temporary like Achilles23 Jul 2014 8:45 p.m. PST

Very sorry to see you go, Sparker. Have always enjoyed your contributions.

Best,
Aaron

I would miss you a lot my friend.
Any chance to change your decision?

It's a shame to see contributing members leave. I don't suppose reconsidering would be an option?

wrgmr123 Jul 2014 9:30 p.m. PST

Hey Sparker, sorry you have made this decision.
We'll keep in touch through your blog.

D A THB23 Jul 2014 10:37 p.m. PST

Although I find the amount of your enthusiasm a bit overwhelming at times, its a shame to see you go.

ColonelToffeeApple23 Jul 2014 11:47 p.m. PST

That's a bit of a shame Sparker, sorry to see you go.

Rrobbyrobot23 Jul 2014 11:59 p.m. PST

Dude!? Why not stick around? I mean, you'll do as you'll do, but…

Just had a thought. TMP is like the Hotel California as you can sign out anytime you like, but you can never leave.

Texas Jack24 Jul 2014 2:33 a.m. PST

I am very sorry to see you leave as well Sparker. You are a very valuable member here, and besides, you post some great pictures! So why donīt you reconsider, eh?

KaweWeissiZadeh24 Jul 2014 3:10 a.m. PST

I stopped posting much around here quite some time ago – Glad to have you on several other lists.

Geesh. TMP is a website not a wife.

Brian Smaller24 Jul 2014 3:38 a.m. PST

Geesh. TMP is a website not a wife.

That had me laughing.

Arteis24 Jul 2014 3:40 a.m. PST

For the last few days I've also been seriously thinking about signing off from TMP. Seeing Sparker leave in such a dignified manner has finally spurred me into doing so as well.

Whilst I could simply sidle off without telling anyone, this public sign-off will hopefully prevent me from being tempted to ever post here again (though I'll no doubt be unable to resist popping by from time to time to read only).

Like Sparker, I too leave with heavy heart, because I have enjoyed TMP for quite some years. But recent disclosures mean it is now time to seek somewhere else to be my wargaming place to relax in and chat of an evening.

There are many people I really like here. But then, this isn't goodbye, as I'm sure to run into most of you elsewhere on the web. And you're always welcome at my blog.

So see you around (but just not here) …

Arteis (Roly)

Have really cut back my contributions the last few years, the ongoing soap operas and the manner in which they are handled by the "staff" has put me off a great deal. This recent drama, and the rather sordid details that have been brought to light has really been the proverbial nail for me. Not that I was a major TMP poster by any means, but still, I tried to contribute on occasion, and have met many helpful individuals over the years. Many people I once enjoyed following have left on their own accord or had their accounts locked. I just find increasingly little to be excited about on TMP any longer.

Will probably head off to LAF or elsewhere. Will likely launch a long-delayed blog soon dealing with 20th-century to near future warfare. If my account is not locked here (hey, there's always a chance), may drop by occasionally if and when some long needed sanity prevails (doubtful but still….).

Have I missed something?

Sparker,

I am very sad to see you go; we may not always have agreed, but I enjoyed your posts and, in particular, the photographs and reports of your wonderful games.

Sorry to see you go Sparker. Not sure why the extreme move but do stop by every once in a while. Your free membership will always be there.

Well if it is because of some sort of drama in TMP talk or related boards, maybe it would have been better to just turn them off. That's what I do. TMP is a much better place without it. wink

For Supporting Members, there is an excellent discussion in The Lounge.

Just looked there – the only topic I can find that may be relevant is one started by someone called Andrew May. Whatever else it is, I certainly wouldn't call it an "excellent discussion". Seems fairly superficial silliness really (which, by the way, I'm totally in sympathy with as a concept).

Frothers Did It And Ran Away24 Jul 2014 6:05 a.m. PST

Has anyone ever really left TMP in a huff and actually stayed away? I'm sure Sparker will be back soon enough.

Heinz Good Aryan24 Jul 2014 6:09 a.m. PST

i don't know why anyone would leave over something like this. it's a site where people come and post about history and gaming. it tends to have lots of melodrama too but that is incredibly easy to completely avoid. just don't visit this forum! lol i came here to see if there was any discussion about the ignore and possibly hiding messages on the boards, which is something i care about, and bang there's all this….

martin goddard Sponsoring Member of TMP24 Jul 2014 6:16 a.m. PST

Sorry to see you go on "shore leave" but sure you will still be enjoying your gaming. Come back when you think it right.
All the best.

I have to say this is totally beyond me. I am still new to all this (only 2 years in) but have found your input invaluable on occasion. You do have that memorable icon also.

You have been offered free membership so why leave? If folk say things that offend…… ignore them. Visit it every so often and contribute where you chose. Don't get into the nonsense as to whether Napoleon was a Bad Man or Wellington a Sad Man. Leave that to those who run to 4 pages of massive word counts.

This forum only works because we get authoritative responses from folk like Summerfield, to name just one, and everyman's loss diminishes us (slight paraphrase).

138SquadronRAF24 Jul 2014 6:40 a.m. PST

Two great contributors gone.

I for one will be very sorry to see Sparker and Arteis go.

Joes Shop Supporting Member of TMP24 Jul 2014 6:45 a.m. PST

I have left several sites for various reasons since my involvement with the internet but have never felt the need or desire to make those reasons public.

No disrespect intended but I cannot understand why anyone would start a thread for that purpose. What is the point: attention, sympathy, to generate discussion? Frankly, what is left to discuss if someone decides to leave?

I wonder if those leaving have contacted the Editor (privately) to discuss their issues?

I've read everything on Frothers regarding TMP and personally, at this point, nothing there causes me to reflect on my continued enjoyment of THIS site.

Regards,

J. P. Kelly

Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh… it's the Apocalypse!!! Zombies, death, famine and no one ever post on TMP ever again! No one will find this site ever again! Run… save yourself while there is still time! *sigh*

I shall miss your contributions Sparker. It is a shame.

I still enjoy the site. I just don't read things that don't interest me. Plain and simple.

John D Salt24 Jul 2014 7:31 a.m. PST

I think I should probably be off, too, and for the same reasons as Sparker.

Since it is a Navy song, I shall be singing "Blue Liners and Bubbly" to myself on the way out.

All the best,

John.

Whirlwind24 Jul 2014 7:41 a.m. PST

I do think this is a great shame. I've greatly enjoyed the posts of all three members these last few years.

@John D Salt

And in particular, I'd like to thank you for the recommendation for Brains and Bullets link which has been unbelievably useful, and also for the best succint explanation of EW in the modern age TMP link

Best regards to the three of you

Who asked this joker24 Jul 2014 7:42 a.m. PST

I shall be left scratching my head but for the life of me can't understand why someone would leave TMP.

Texas Jack24 Jul 2014 7:55 a.m. PST

Amen to that Joker. I thought this place was about grown men playing with toys, guess I was mistaken.

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP24 Jul 2014 8:03 a.m. PST

I'll say it again. I cannot understand it at all.

I have no interest in wargames personally. I do enjoy tales of alternative and counterfactual history and find advice on new products, uniforms, conversions, painting, basing, equipment (especially) invaluable….so I pick and chose and anything that degenerates into name calling bores me stiff…so I do not read it.

If you have contributed so much that folk respond like this….why not continue to do so?

morrigan24 Jul 2014 8:06 a.m. PST

No, you have it right Texas Jack. Playing with toys is what TMP is about. There's enough drama in real life.

"I think I should probably be off, too, and for the same reasons as Sparker."

Oh no, so I'll be left all on my own. Oh well, I always was a stick-in-the-mud.

"Has anyone ever really left TMP in a huff and actually stayed away?"

Yes.

abelp0124 Jul 2014 8:24 a.m. PST

Sparker, Roly, all the best! Sparker I want to thank you for inspiring to continue my Napoleonic army with the motto "I'd rather have less large battalions than more small battalions". I've painted more and love the look of my battalions more than ever!
Roly, you've inspired all of us to try harder at making our armies and their leaders look like they're truly on a battlefield!
After I hit the Powerball, I'll have to look into getting a home "down under" and play a few games with you fellas!
Untill then I'll keep my eyes out for ya!
CHEERS!

Sparker, see you in a month.

bobspruster24 Jul 2014 8:37 a.m. PST

Drama? This is a forum for miniature enthusiasts. A place to go in order to give and get help with your hobby, or to show off your work. I can't appreciate attaching so much importance to the site that one would feel compelled to leave for any reason other than taking up a new hobby.
