Gents. Just double checking my research here – modern (Iraq/Afghanistan) British platoon should be a total of 28 officers, NCOs and other ranks, correct? And is it correct that in the field, 51 mm mortars were replaced with 60mm mortars? Final question: under what circumstances would the Bulldog be used instead of the Warrior? Thoughts appreciated. brian |

Yes, three sections of 8 plus platoon HQ. The 51s were replaced at some point but I can't recall exactly when. |

The 51s were largely ditched before the 60mm was acquired – at the time the official line of thought was that the introduction of 40mm UGLs had made the light mortar superfluous, but experience said otherwise and a UOR was put out in 2007 and the 60mm entered service in 2008. |
