If I wanted to put together high elf swordsmen armed with swords and shields similar to the recently released dark elf models, which combinations of bits would work best and which high elf models would they come from? Thanks in advance.

Tricky. You'll probably be best served going with the High Elf spearmen for everything except the sword arms.

Sword arms can be found for champion models in several of the plastic kits, but you'll find it tricky to find a large number of them that fit well together.

If it was me, I'd see if I could get some of the sword arms from the Dark Elf Bleakswords and go with them. If you have a Dark lf player local to you, he's likely to have some of these going spare as they are one version of a 3-option kit. If you find that it looks OK (you might need to to de-barb the swords themselves and some of the decorations), then either see if you can get some more locally or I bet you'll find them on one of the bits sites quite reasonably.

Best of luck and, if it works, can we have a picture?

High Elf spearmen have a lot of what you are looking for. For every four spearmen, there is one sword arm. This means that there are a lot out there in the bit market. If that is the look that you are going for, I would recommend that you pickup a box of those, and buy the sword arm bits from a reputable dealer on E-Bay. Other than that, I am not sure but you do get sword arms for High Elf Silver Helms that you don't need to have, which can of course be bought as a bit. It depends on what kind of sword arm that you are looking for.

In the similar idea of Manflesh, I would ask to see if there is a High Elf player local to you and see if they have the bits that you are looking for. On another note, this is an interesting modeling idea that I have thought about doing, but not seriously. I do have a lot of these High Elves that I may think about converting eventually.
