So, I was tempted by the Newline sale : TMP link And I'd just about been convinced by Texas Jack that I needed 20mm and not 1/72nd to go with my plastics. Then I started looking at The Plastic Pelisse blog : link And it is true – the 20mm are perfect matches – for my Airfix ACW armies. But it looks as if for the ancients the 1/72nd's could also work fine, with the 20mm even looking a bit small. What to do ? What to do ? Does anyone have some unit sized pictures of Newline (20mm or 1/72nd) alongside plastics ? I'm starting to think I need both – which is ok except now the temptation of the sale is worse. Any thoughts anyone ? |

Now to be fair I said I mixed Newline cavalry with plastic infantry, so don´t hang me I should have, if Czech post can manage it, some Austrian Napoleonic infantry in my mailbox early next week, so I could take a picture of them with my Italeri infantry (but you have to promise not to puke when you see my painting skills!). But for ancients I don´t know, they are still on my list. But of course, going the safe route and getting both is certainly the wargamer thing to do |

I don't know that I have any pictures of Newline Ancients 1/72 with my HaT figures but I can tell you that the Late Romans (1/72) from NL match very well with HaT plastic figures. The Goths also match well with the MiniArt Germanic. MiniArt tend to make there figures on the big side but not too big. I should think you could mix and match to your hearts content. For smaller 20mm figures, we are only talking about a millimeter or two. The bulk of the metal figures will probably hide the fact that they are shorter anyway. |

I flesh out my 20mm plastic ancients armies with Newline metals, they mix fine. |

@Texas Jack – I value your advice, no lynching intended ! And I really like the idea of mixing in some new poses with my Airfix ACW! @Who asked this joker : Late Romans was one of the areas of interest, so that's positive, thanks ! Since the Newline ancients lines don't overlap in the 2 scales offered I think I can probably safely buy what I want without worrying too much – especially since the 1/72nd has the Myceneans that I REALLY want (to expand on Casear's offering). What the heck – YOLO so I'm going for it – shiny metal goodness will soon join with the matt plastic wonderfulness. And it'll be all good. |

You won't go wrong with the 1/72 LIR or Goths and Franks for that matter. I have not seen the Hunnic horse in the flesh but I suspect more of the same! |

These are HaT 1/72 figures with three 20mm Newline Designs command figures. They are a head shorter than HaT, doesn't worry me in the slightest but perhaps best used as separate units rather than mixing them?
