"Another tank was lifted from the bottom of the Barents Sea – "Sherman" M4A2(76)W with a weapon, M1À2. The vehicle was lifted from the bulk carrier "Thomas Donaldson" lying 55 meters deep near Kildin Island. Divers say it's not the only tank there, two more are waiting for their turn."

The question is "Why?". Shermans are, relatively speaking, a dime a dozen. Now if it where a Tiger…. |

Most likely salvage if nothing else. |

'Now if it where a Tiger….' It would have broken down on the way to the dock and been scrapped in situ. :) |

The salvageable parts should be worth a small fortune! I would think that supplies of spares would have dried up long ago. (Pardon the pun in this case….) There are more vehicle collectors out there than we realize! |

Shermans are, relatively speaking, a dime a dozen. Probably true, but I doubt many of them are the M4a2 version (with the diesel engine) with a 76mm gun. I think almost all of those went to the Soviet Union, so they're probably pretty rare in the West. |
