We played this out twice at Historicon, once on Friday night, and again on Saturday morning. Both games ran about 4.5 hrs, and were close run affairs until the very end.

Great AAR Peter! So is Barry going to sell those Dragoons? Would you be so kind as to send me an OOB for this battle? I would love to try it in our group!

Good looking game--I'd know those Front Rank Russians anywhere… :)

Thanks! The lead Dragoon unit (ultramarine facings) actually acquitted itself very well in the first half of the game. Czar Barry had previously ordered them dismounted as a mark of shame and motivational technique – there are pictures of the Dismounted version on his blog!

The scenario is posted on my blog at:

If you want to make things tougher on the French (and have the Prussian plaayer more into the action), allow the two lead Prussian infantry units to start deplopyed in Fontenelle and on the adjacent ridge, with the rest strung out in Column of March back towards the Villifort road exit

Thanks for the OOB Peter!

I love the idea of dismounting Dragoons who are not fulfilling their duties mounted, so funny.

We have in our group a chap who's Russian Grey Hussars never loose, even against Guard cavalry. Maybe they should be elevated to the status of elites?

Gonsalvo23 Jul 2014 6:43 p.m. PST

Thanks, Michael, I enjoy your many AAR's as well!

wrgmr1:
The Grey Hussars are the Soum regt, IIRC; my veteran Minifiogs version is seen in the upper right of the first pic above. Good unit for me as well. Promote them to Guard status – very Russian!

What rule set was being used for the game. Sorry if I totally missed any previous reference to them.

SSS:

Rules used were Field of Battle, 2nd Edition.
