A buddy who is not a supporting member is unable to post to the forums and it says that only supporting members can post… is this an error? |
Augie the Doggie | 22 Jul 2014 9:01 p.m. PST |
Basic members have been able to post on threads as long as they were verified. Apparently that is no longer the case. Did I miss the announcement ? Just curious. |
MrHarold | 22 Jul 2014 9:03 p.m. PST |
That was my understanding as well. |
MrHarold | 22 Jul 2014 9:03 p.m. PST |
Ah, here we go: Forums Change Due to the number of "drive by" postings we've received lately, as a temporary measure, only Supporting Members will be allowed to participate on certain of our forums. |
StarfuryXL5 | 22 Jul 2014 9:49 p.m. PST |
Too bad it doesn't specify which forums. I guess it'll be trail and error for the Basic Members. |
deephorse | 23 Jul 2014 4:18 a.m. PST |
What's the point of that? The 'drive-byers' will simply wait until the ban is lifted and then return. Meanwhile the majority are hurt because of the actions of a few. Still I suppose it will cut down on the criticism on here eh Bill? |
Editor in Chief Bill | 23 Jul 2014 4:31 a.m. PST |
Too bad it doesn't specify which forums. I guess it'll be trail and error for the Basic Members. A little bit trial and error for us, too… this hasn't been tried in a long time (or maybe never?). Still I suppose it will cut down on the criticism on here eh Bill? It keeps the majority of the Frothers out for a while. |
Angel Barracks | 23 Jul 2014 6:03 a.m. PST |
ah, so the people that like to come here to talk about my range of figures can't. So less exposure for my products because of something someone else did? Michael.

ah, so the people that like to come here to talk about my range of figures can't. So less exposure for my products because of something someone else did? Who cares one way or the other??? It's only $3 USD to become member. Angel, if they don't have the $3 USD they won't buy any of your models anyway. |
Angel Barracks | 23 Jul 2014 6:08 a.m. PST |
Not so, plenty of my customers are basic members here. And I care if my product is less visible on a site I pay to advertise on. Michael. |
TelesticWarrior | 23 Jul 2014 6:31 a.m. PST |
That's some ridiculous reasoning there combatpainter. There are literally scores of reasons why someone would not want to become a supporting member, besides the cost. There seem to be more reasons created every day due to Bills shenanigans. Angelbarracks is right. His concern is a legitimate one. Bill seems to have a brought a lot of this frothers trouble onto himself, and now he is trying to drown out the criticism with these reactionary measures that will impinge on the abilities of many people to enjoy the forum. |

And, we're back. Whew? That, was interesting. What purpose it actively served is beyond me. I hope that emperor Bill is wiser than those historical characters featured in Tuchman's "The March of Folly"…. |
The Red Baron | 23 Jul 2014 6:40 a.m. PST |
looks like we can post again, not that I think im going to anymore as its getting a bit like North Korea round here with the silly rulings, daft bannings, accounts locked left right and centre, its almost as if the editor has something to hide! |
Just John | 23 Jul 2014 6:44 a.m. PST |
Funny thing is I had avoided all the Frothers stuff until this ban made me curious. Also as a non paying basic member I have to disagree with combatpainters statement. $3 USD I don't spend here is $3 USD I spend on someone's figures. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 23 Jul 2014 6:51 a.m. PST |
not that I think im going to anymore Correct I was kind of borderline on you, given some of your strange comments yesterday, but I think it's clear now you're a troll. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 23 Jul 2014 6:55 a.m. PST |
That, was interesting. What purpose it actively served is beyond me. Kept the forums quiet overnight, didn't it? Allowed things to calm down. |
Just John | 23 Jul 2014 6:56 a.m. PST |
Wow and The Red Baron is summarily executed. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 23 Jul 2014 7:05 a.m. PST |
He tried to stir things up yesterday by bringing the TMP Worldwide non-scandal up again, then back-pedaled furiously when he was called on it. Now he's comparing TMP to North Korea? He's a troll. |
jeffreyw3 | 23 Jul 2014 7:08 a.m. PST |
Hmmm…we'll have to add posting on TMP to the Bill of Rights… |
Earthman | 23 Jul 2014 7:13 a.m. PST |
He's a troll. Or just a concerned 8-year member of TMP… |
Editor in Chief Bill | 23 Jul 2014 7:27 a.m. PST |
He can always PM me if he wants to talk. |
Dan 055 | 23 Jul 2014 8:04 a.m. PST |
getting a bit like North Korea round here My immediately take on the above was the same as Bills. |

Or just a concerned 8-year member of TMP… …who I just found out also had a sock puppet account, and who has gone to Frothers to boast. Troll, confirmed |
davbenbak | 23 Jul 2014 9:57 a.m. PST |
I just realized that I have been a basic member for free for years so I went ahead and ponied up for a one year membership. Well worth it. Now there's still PBS..wonder what a Peter Paul and Mary tote bag goes for? |
morrigan | 23 Jul 2014 9:58 a.m. PST |
I'm a basic member, and glad to be back. I'm also glad Bill does whatever he needs to in order to keep TMP civil. It always was that way, and I hope that it continues to be that way. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 23 Jul 2014 10:10 a.m. PST |
davbenbak, thanks! And morrigan, thanks too! |

What is a "drive-by" posting exactly? |
Rebelyell2006 | 23 Jul 2014 1:19 p.m. PST |
It's kinda like a drive-by shooting, but instead of leaning out the window and spraying bullets before driving away, the poster leans out his window and types up a few inflammatory posts before driving away. Frequently from a disposable user account or a spare/lurking account awakened just for that purpose. |

I haven't heard of drive-by posting before, and I can see how annoying it is. Still, I'm glad I'm able to post again. |
Robert Kennedy | 23 Jul 2014 6:23 p.m. PST |
Seems to be a few "Sleeper" accounts recently activated aren't there Rebelyell? LOL |
Editor in Chief Bill | 23 Jul 2014 6:43 p.m. PST |
And maybe some "abandoned" accounts that someone suddenly found useful |
Rudysnelson | 24 Jul 2014 2:05 p.m. PST |
I need a snail mail address to mail membership. I never use emoney transfers or credit cards on line. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 24 Jul 2014 2:12 p.m. PST |
There's a snail mail address on the upgrade page: TMP link |
Great War Ace | 24 Jul 2014 3:10 p.m. PST |
