Hi I've been working on Alan Perry's beautiful Bonaparte Crossing The Alps figure, after David's famous painting(s). The bracketed 's' is there because David did five versions of this fabulous picture. I'm working primarily from the Belvedere version. The figure is mostly painted now, and I'm currnently working on the base. I'm concerned over a few things, like varnish/lacquer. Perhaps some of you guys (and girls?) could help? Anyway, I hope some of you might like what I'm doing: link As well as the work I'm doing on the miniature, there are a few pics from Figure World 2014, where I bought a wooden display base for the project. Seb, I like what you are doing indeed, and look forward to viewing the miniature when finished. While Testors is a great product, take care to carefully read the label, paying particular attention to the temperature and humidity ranges. Test the spray on a sample miniature and include your metallic paints. I usually mask surfaces painted metallic so the dull coat does not ruin the metallic finish. Do not spray your figure until you have sprayed a test figure. Go lightly with the spray. Spray multiple times from various angles. Multiple coats are better than one heavy spray. Thank you for sharing. |

Thanks Condotta. Perhaps rather foolishly, I've got a test *battalion* in the garage, drying out after a second coat of the Testors lacquer! They looked okay after the first coat. I'll go check 'em now. I'll update my post on that unit, currently here: link once they're dried out. I have to confess that Army Painter's Quickshade made them look very dull. I had to go back and do some colour and highlighting, and the whole idea of Quickshade was – certainly for (and I assumed most people) – to save time! I really like Anthony Barton's painting method. but I haven't tried it myself yet. He undercoats white. I still undercoat black at present. So much painting to do… so little time! |
