I am making a order for a new panzer brigade, and would like to get your opinion- should I get carius and his jagdtiger or another set of 3 panthers? (I already have 3 in the order) |

Upside. He is in a Jagdtiger. Downside. The points cost. You lose a VP if he is taken out. Upside. Very cool and good looking model. Downside. Reluctant Veteran. You will not be making any assaults with that points cost, but you will also not un-bail so readily. Upside. He has a bonus for shooting, but just his model. Get the figure/model and if being Carius is too much of a downside, just use it as a vanilla jagdtiger. |

One other thing to consider. One model with a top armor of 2 is just as easy to take out with an air strike or artillery barrage as any other tank(s) with top armor of 2. Which would I go for? |

Personally I would go for more Panthers. I dislike using "characters" like this in WWII historical games. Damon. |

I dont know the rules you play. They sound stupid if they rate otto as reluctant veteran. I would take a Jagdtiger and not 3 panthers. If you get a otto carius for free … Take it. Greetings |

Carius in his Tiger I, then maybe, but no on the Jagdtiger. |

Otto is +85 in the JT and gets one special rule and a negative VP risk Take him 6 months earlier in his Tiger he costs +100 points but gets 4 special rules and no VP loss and has the ability to get Albert for +50 points too. (Al gets 1 special rule) |

Otto and the rest of the 2/512 are rated as "Reluctant",because they were traind on turreted tanks, not Tank Hunters with hull mounted gun. LES |

My main concern is the reliability- If the tank, being overloaded, bogs, then I will end up with it being a massive hunk of metal- target practice for some m10… But I'll think I'll risk it. P.S. (to lap1964) I think the reason they are reluctant are because they just want to get the war over with and go home already! |

Should probably have thrown an ostwind or two in… However, I am switching this order to A ww1 1750 pt army, so forget this entire thread! |

Otto Carius as you may never have seen him before: link

2/512 is rated "reluctant" for a several reasons: War fatigue Limited time to train (also impacts the skill rating) Lack of confidence in their vehicles. 2/512 was converted from tank crews who were used to turrets – Carius absolutely HATED the Jagdtiger. Evidence of the unit refusing to fight even under favorable conditions of engagement. |

Everyone has a breaking point. I imagine quite a few seasoned vets were at that point in Spring '45. Knowing the whole war is on the verge of ending, I'm more suprised that all spring '45 forces are not rated as reluctant. At that point you have to figure that most soldiers just wanted to not be "that guy, who died in the last battle." |
