I put together a fleet of scratch-built space ships because I was inspired by some stuff TheBeast showed me some time ago. Check out my blog for more pictures. link
Let me know what you think? Ideas to improve or stuff I did completely wrong. |

Very cool and inspirational! |

They are cool and a few of them would easily pass as droids. Rabbit |

They look nice. It may sound odd, but my first thought seeing them was that you could put legs on many of them and they'd also make great looking walkers for pulp/vsf type stuff. |

Nice! I like the idea of ships that move through a frictionless environment rather than "jets in space" or battleships with vacuum hatches Very creative – impressive work |

Lovely job! I had a fleet made from various sizes of styrofoam balls with gubbins stuck on. Now I occassionally think of going smaller scale and using assorted beads. But I do like big bricky slab sided un-aerodynamic spaceships. |

Those are great but what are the "brush" ended probes from? Cheers Roger. |

All our base belong to you. |

@dick garrison: They are tooth picks that I picked up from Walmart I think they come in a pack of 50 or 100. I'm glad you all like these. These were very simple, but I think the look is decent. Nothing fancy, but I've got a whole fleet for a few dollars. |

Makes me proud, Sean! Glad to be of inspiration, but the work is yours, all yours. Doug |

@TheBeast: Thanks Doug. Wait until you see my next batch of scratch built stuff. I was playing around with extra GW ork arms and made some stuff. You will see soon. |

I have started a new fleet using some ork bits I had piled in my game room. You can see more pictures on my blog. link
What do you think? I need some ideas for larger ships to match these guys. |
TheBeast | 29 Jul 2014 6:58 a.m. PST |
Interesting; I'd never thought of those. The 'buzzsaw' configuration almost harkens back to Space Fleet. For the Full Thrust participation game I always wanted to try, I'd cut the grips off some small bolters, I think Orky, and would have called them small private merchants. Not visualizing even bigger, though I suppose it'll hit me about 2AM. Something boxy, with stuff at weird angles, I suppose… [Edit: I suppose like the ones in the first piccie…] Doug |

I see a Space Ork mob, er fleet meself. Very brick upside da 'ead Orky in style with the first batch, and may we all trust that the second dedicated Ork fleet will be painted red so they go fasta? Leland R. Erickson Metal Express metal-express.net |

OK, follow on to my first post as the iPad-from-Hell isn't letting me edit, for the bigger vessels, you could either incorporate an asteroid made from a ripped up chunk of styrofoam packing material and add assorted bits and gubbins to it making sure there's more Orky add on's than rock to ensure they're readily identifiable as a ship versus an Orky powered rock (and therefore more maneuverable), or you could start with much the same solid core parts you used for the first batch, then add all sorts of "improvemunts" as only an Ork mekaniak gang is capable of inflicting on a newly "acquired" ship from another source. Add appropriate color swatches of Ork clan/gang affiliation and glyphs telling the hated "Hoomans" or "Skinnies" where ta stick it, and you're ready to conquer the galaxy for the greater glory of Da Big Boss! Isn't it 'hoomies'? ;->= Pretty sure you've plenty of orky decals, Sean, but I actually have a couple of sheets sitting right by my front door. No hideous danger of me asking you to wait while 'I have a look in the basement.' Doug |

I hate decals. I am not smart enough to use them. But thanks. |
