There has been some speculation on another website that I might shut down TMP at any moment and retire.

First, I'm not at retirement age. grin

Second, I enjoy running TMP, and have no desire to "retire" from doing that!

I have received inquiries from time to time concerning selling the website. My replies have always been that I am not interested in selling at this time, I am having too much fun!

My wife and I do have some vague plans of spending more time in the Philippines in years to come (my wife is from there). Of course, I can still run TMP from anywhere in the world, as long as I have power and an internet connection!

So there is no need to be alarmed… grin

Sundance21 Jul 2014 4:51 a.m. PST

I don't visit any other wargames discussion boards. Everything I want and need is right here. Happy to hear you're not going anywhere (except maybe the Philippines).

It's Rupert Murdoch who is trying to buy your site, isn't it? Just go ahead and admit it …

ming3121 Jul 2014 5:24 a.m. PST

The Chinese are buying Forbes media …

15th Hussar21 Jul 2014 5:34 a.m. PST

So there is no need to be alarmed…

Bill must be a direct descendant of both a certain White Star line captain and Lieutenant Frank Drebben! huh?

Winston Smith21 Jul 2014 5:42 a.m. PST

I see you have set out some more Locked Account bait. What's the over/under betting line on how many you will get?
The OFM just told me to set the line at 4.

Irish Marine21 Jul 2014 5:52 a.m. PST

How do you know who has been locked out??

Allen5721 Jul 2014 5:54 a.m. PST

Glad to hear the disclaimer. I am quite fond of your site. While there are many complaints about the site's structure/format I have not found another which I go to regularly and sift through the posts. Please don't screw this up if you go to the rumored V.4 of TMP.

Thanks,

Al

How do you know who has been locked out??

There's no master list, you would have to look at the individual's profile page.

Silent Pool21 Jul 2014 6:12 a.m. PST

I don't like everything about TMP but I like a lot of things about TMP. Going away would be one of my dislikes about TMP and I probably wouldn't talk to you again. So, good to know you are NOT going away …now wait for the announcement evil grin

jtkimmel21 Jul 2014 6:18 a.m. PST

I read TMP every day, I may have visited Frothers once or twice that I can remember. While I wasn't aware of this concern, I am glad to know TMP isn't going anywhere.

Silent Pool21 Jul 2014 6:39 a.m. PST

Actually, I hear another website is going away wink

How about we all run with that line? evil grin

CorpCommander21 Jul 2014 6:50 a.m. PST

Once you do retire, TMP would be a perfect way to keep your mind fit. We are coming up on the 20th anniversary of the site, aren't we? I think you started this in 1996? Or was it 1998?

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian21 Jul 2014 6:55 a.m. PST

We're a few months past the 20th anniversary. grin

Heinz Good Aryan21 Jul 2014 6:57 a.m. PST

ok, someone explain to me what this is about…..

John the OFM21 Jul 2014 6:59 a.m. PST

You don't want to know…

15th Hussar21 Jul 2014 7:10 a.m. PST

BTW, I should have WINKED instead of HUH?'ing in my above post.

grin

Heinz Good Aryan21 Jul 2014 7:18 a.m. PST

"You don't want to know…"

what? why is there a thread about it then???

Grumpy Monkey21 Jul 2014 7:29 a.m. PST

Heinz,

The children over at Frothers have painted all their minis and are now off making up stories about TMP and Dear Editor.

A bunch of grade school crap, they clearly have nothing better to do.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian21 Jul 2014 7:36 a.m. PST

why is there a thread about it then???

Some issues I am addressing on TMP Talk. Other issues I will not discuss, but I do not wish to violate the privacy of our editorial staff.

Flecktarn21 Jul 2014 7:40 a.m. PST

Bill,

I think that you would have done better not to respond to any of the nonsense on the Frothers site, either there or here.

However, having found that site only because of these issues, I have had my eyes opened as to the nature and views of at least one regular poster on here.

Jurgen

HistoryPhD21 Jul 2014 7:43 a.m. PST

The thing that would truly burn those on the other website is if Bill and all of us just totally ignore them. I suggest we all quit responding to their nonsense.

RavenscraftCybernetics21 Jul 2014 7:45 a.m. PST

if it was a permanent site, why'd ya name it Tmp?

There is one truth about life, the universe and everything: nothing stays put. Bill can reassure himself that he will be at this game and "not to worry", but tomorrow is a mystery. Today TMP runs, enjoy….

Are we moving TMP to Baltimore?

wminsing21 Jul 2014 10:08 a.m. PST

If TMP shut down tomorrow, I would miss the community but life (and more importantly gaming) would go on. Nothing to lose any sleep over.

Now that TMP has "staff," it may be able to continue on without me. grin

Is there *any* truth to the rumor that Frothers has run
afoul of HM Postal Service regs ????

Hey, just asking…

Personal logo Herkybird Supporting Member of TMP21 Jul 2014 12:20 p.m. PST

To me, TMP is home. A great resource and discussion forum.
May TMP live forever! – or at least outlast me!

skippy000121 Jul 2014 12:23 p.m. PST

TMP is the last bastion of human civilisation holding back the barbaric peurile juvenile grammer-challenged trolling ignorant arrogant absurd ludicrous and assinine knee-jerk politcally correct anti-individual masses which permeates the internet like a virus….

Don't mind me, I just woke up.

Tin hat21 Jul 2014 12:43 p.m. PST

Says the forum that argues over the 'needs more boobies' topic……Perhaps when you really get down to it, there isn't much difference at all.

John the OFM21 Jul 2014 12:52 p.m. PST

At least *our* naughty words get bleeped.

It's amazing how much they care about TMP over at the "other site".
Reading them giving TMP advice is like reading Democrats giving Republicans advice on how to win elections. grin
The sincerity is suspect.
HEY! It's a joke! Not political at all! grin

How do you know who has been locked out??

There's no master list, you would have to look at the individual's profile page.

Well, if we have a Most Stifled table and a Most Ignored table, maybe we should have a Locked Accounts table, too. Then when we get bored we can go there occasionally to throw sticks at those who have been locked out.

Who's up for a poll?

Winston Smith21 Jul 2014 2:30 p.m. PST

Polls are bad.

Mad McGobbo21 Jul 2014 2:49 p.m. PST

What lovely tolerant people you are, throwing sticks at the dispossessed of TMP just because they went against the grand hierarchy. As for those of you that think that Frothers is making up all the non-sense you would be wrong. Go look into it for yourself and see what evidence is out there.
Bill is as much to blame for all the hoo-ha due to his constant prodding of folks over there. You know the old saying: Mess with the bull you get the horns.

Sparker21 Jul 2014 3:39 p.m. PST

Just spent about 10 minutes looking at all the filth on Frothers – I wonder that I couldn't actually sense my IQ dipping, not to mention my reading age!

I actually don't mind bad language in context, say from soldiers and sailors doing it tough, cos it does help, but from civvies talking about toy soldiers? (Or not talking about toy soldiers in their case, just talking about others talking about toy soldiers!)

Honestly, why do we care what they think? Just because they are obsessed with TMP, do we really need to reciprocate? Lets just grow up and carry on carrying on…

Hopefully for another 20!

What lovely tolerant people you are, throwing sticks at the dispossessed of TMP just because they went against the grand hierarchy.

In other words, they broke forum rules so often they finally got the old heave-ho? The ones who hate me because I won't let them back onto the website they claim to despise?

Bill is as much to blame for all the hoo-ha due to his constant prodding of folks over there.

Really? I thought it was just kind of me to try to answer their questions. Julia, Claire, Gwen and Jhajha tried to help them too.

Charlie 1221 Jul 2014 5:25 p.m. PST

There are things I like and things I don't like about TMP. But, on the whole, there's more to like than not. And, hey, I still come around, day after day. That says something….

As for Frothers; been there once/twice. That was enough…

Careful Bill, now that you have staff, they may just decide to push the old man out (kinda like a palace coup…)!

Oh my! This has been for many years my go-to site for minis gaming talk, research, questions, swaps, and general palaver, so I sincerely hope it is NOT EVER going to vanish.

When Editor retires, he MUST turn TMP over to a successor, as Augustus did! (Just not a Tiberius.)

"In other words, they broke forum rules so often they finally got the old heave-ho? The ones who hate me because I won't let them back onto the website they claim to despise?"

Obfuscation at it's finest again. The point wasn't that they had broken the rules but some members of this forum want to "throw sticks" at them to taunt them that they have been kicked out of "paradise" so to speak.
Yes you have prodded at people over at Frothers, may I point out the less than "Christian" comment made to ALizardincrimson? The one where you taunted her over an ex?

@Sparker: Those TMP threads on Frothers would die a death if Bill kept away. As for language well it's your choice as to what offends you as it is your choice to stay away. No one will force you to visit :)

TelesticWarrior22 Jul 2014 4:07 a.m. PST

I went to Frothers once to see what all the fuss is about. The people who have said above that it is a "one visit site" are spot on. Frothers really isn't worth a second visit.
Editor Bill, I feel that you should have followed that advice. You have a wonderful website all of your own, you don't need to spend time on a skanky fifth-rate alternative.

Spend more time fixing the TMP bugs and trying to be more consistent and logical when dispensing justice. So many people complaining about the same things over and over again, it must mean something.

Winston Smith22 Jul 2014 6:02 a.m. PST

I would not be surprised to find out that 99% of Frothers is actually useful and not offensive. The problem is that a curious person who first learns about "that fever swamp" go there to track down whatever the hell someone is talking about.
So naturally you track down the "soul" one or the "vibe" one. There you find the universal disdain for TMPers, and if you are "lucky" they condemn you by name.
So who needs that?

BTW, Dear Editor, you had me scared a half hour ago. grin

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian22 Jul 2014 6:04 a.m. PST

The point wasn't that they had broken the rules but some members of this forum want to "throw sticks" at them to taunt them that they have been kicked out of "paradise" so to speak.

Really? Is there anything on TMP to compare with the 340+ page discussion on Frothers, dedicated to mocking TMP, TMP members, myself, and the staff here?

Yes you have prodded at people over at Frothers, may I point out the less than "Christian" comment made to ALizardincrimson? The one where you taunted her over an ex?

What she tried to do on TMP (the deleted topic) was odious and despicable, and if I ever meet her, she will hear far worse from me. She is the lowest type of human being.

Those TMP threads on Frothers would die a death if Bill kept away.

I've stopped talking, but they're still going on, page after page… now they're attacking Editor Jhajha, what did she ever do to them?

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian22 Jul 2014 6:06 a.m. PST

BTW, Dear Editor, you had me scared a half hour ago.
