Cheapest one is $400 USD if you want any buildings, though you can just get the board for $330. USD

They don't come painted either.

Only a GW Fanboy will buy this.

$330.00 USD for a board?
I hope it's hand-painted!

Pictors Studio20 Jul 2014 11:25 p.m. PST

Actually its a pretty good deal for as much use as you can get out of them. I bought the last set they put out for $270 USD and have gotten way more than $270 USD worth out of them. These would be great for Infinity, giving you an urban street setting which is great for that.

A 6x4 terrained table that is just about indestructible really isn't a bad buy for $330. USD Plus it comes with a carrying case.

Look at this kickstarter:

If you see the large pond, it is $14 USD for an 11x8" piece of terrain. So you would need 3 of those across and two length wise to equal the size of a single 2x2 foot terrain piece.

That is 6 of them.

6 x $14 USD = $84. USD $84 USD for approximately 2x2 feet of resin terrain.

Now GW has 6 2x2 pieces in there. If you were to use this company to fill that area it would cost you $504 USD and the resin probably wouldn't be as durable as the GW plastic pieces.

Nor would it come in a handy carrying case.

GW seems pretty inexpensive by comparison.

Or you could just buy a board from these guys for £115.00 GBP (approx. $200 USD). Oh and it comes pre-painted.

Good point Chris – I'm sure you could fill it with MDF cityscape buildings or similar and end up with the equivalent of the $800 USD set up and still have plenty of change left.

Also I'm pretty sure that someone isn't going to buy $500 USD worth of swamps and use that as a playing area

My first car only cost me $400 USD … just say'n … evil grin

Well Ed at WarGames Tournaments on eBay will sell you this for £250.00 GBP unpainted:

£180.00 GBP, without the baseboard and for £750.00 GBP painted:

or then there's £99.00 GBP from Wargame Model Mods:

Possibly my favourite: again at £99.00 GBP

Sorry Chris but I've got to say that imho that board looks kinda bland compared to the GW one, which is *overflowing* with detail in solid 3D. The 3D elements on the G&G board look barely there from the close-ups of the pics. Plus that $200 USD is a preorder price, add another $25 USD to it at least for the regular price.

Plus if you buy the $400 USD bundle from GW, you're getting a $120 USD Imperial Sector buildings terrain set for $70 USD, saving $50. USD That's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick :)

Bob Runnicles21 Jul 2014 8:26 a.m. PST

So 250 GBP unpainted for the Wargamestournaments one, at current exchange rates that's $425 USD+ – in other words, more expensive than GW! The actual board itself doesn't look all that detailed in those pics either. Very nice setup, though, I'd love to play on that table once it's painted :)

I'm hardly a GW fanboy, the thing is fricking expensive no doubt! But it's funny that a lot of what people are posting as cheaper alternative and either (a) bland and with a fraction of the detail, or (b) not cheaper lol.

Dropship Horizon21 Jul 2014 8:37 a.m. PST

If you're referring to my examples Bob, they are comparison examples of some of what else is available for your money. I'm not making any claims about cheaper, level of detail etc. Each to their own on that.

Cheers

The board looks nice though is supplied unpainted, the injection mould must been a right Bleeped text to design.

In reference to the other ranges, knowing the material costs of MDF I find the cost of some MDF bits somewhat over the top at times to say the least. I know some will be using external cutter & they can charge a lot. Going in-housing lasering does save a lot.

Not a bad deal at all considering the superior quality and detail of this board compared to the competitors.

BTW I won't be buying one, but I'm not going to rip it either because of any burning hatred of GW.

Delta Vee21 Jul 2014 10:50 a.m. PST

Both my self and Sapphire penguin were rather disappointed with the new board, we`ve the other set with the fields and hills and have got good use from it, ( and the skull pits are easily filled ) this one though at 3 each of 2 boards that look massively busy, and are very tied to GW Imperial iconography, makes it difficult to use for any thing else, Eldar vs orks for example. If they sell it as 1 or 2 separate boards it may be looked at but at the moment its very "meh" which is a shame.
As a comment on the durability the original hill and field board was amazing light, tough, strong and easily repacked into the original storage bag, even with the extra 2 board expansion in there.

Mithmee21 Jul 2014 1:36 p.m. PST

I hope it's hand-painted!

If you paint it, it will be.

It not painted until you paint it.

Bob Runnicles21 Jul 2014 1:36 p.m. PST

Sorry Mark, no offense meant :)

Bob Runnicles21 Jul 2014 1:38 p.m. PST

I do like that Eldar-esque board in the fourth pic, though – for some reason it didn't show up when I first commented.

Mithmee21 Jul 2014 1:39 p.m. PST

GW seems pretty inexpensive by comparison.

Really!

I could go down to the beach near my house and bag up 20 pounds of pebbles and build stone walls.

Cost to me is the elmers glue and that is cheap.

These boards are not cheap and is just another money grab by GW.

Mithmee21 Jul 2014 1:42 p.m. PST

There are many ways to get cheaper terrain then buying from GW.
