Dear All,

picture

As is now traditional, the Hall of Heroes crew replayed the Battle of Watling Street yesterday using Hail Caesar rules.

Fantastic stuff

Shipway mentioned the use of wedges in The Imperial Governor, which while fiction is a very, very well written book about this very battle

Thanks Gents!

Re the wedges, that sounds like an interesting reference. And I think wedges might have been useful after the battle had been won, in pursuit, but I doubt the Romans would have left their defile on the ridge until the Britons were well and truly on the backfoot!

Ok I take that all back! Just researched George Shipway, late Lieutenant-Colonel, 13th Lancers, all kinds of operational service including with frontier irregulars on the NW Frontier. This gentleman knew his soldiering!

So if he believed they used wedges at Watling Street, that's good enough for me. Will track down a copy of Imperial Governor and make amends at next year's game!

Thanks again for the good gen Frederick!
