I know there were several regiments of Eclaireurs de la Garde but generally I thought they were parceled out to the various Guard Cavalry regiments in company or squadron sized chunks. Did they ever fight at a battle as a regiment of eclaireurs together? Cheers, The Bandit |

I was so hoping for some response here and am sorry to say little more. The Osprey book lists where they appeared, but not how they actually fought. As you say, they were meant to be scouts after all, attached to Garde units. OK, the 2e Eclaireurs (the ones we all know) were part of the Empress' Dragoons of the Garde…but they seem a large unit to scout just for them. That makes for a lot of skirmishers. Their role was as very light cavalry and as an answer to raiding Cossacks, so it is hard to imagine them acting as shock troops en masse on battlefield…….. But I stress I know absolutely nothing about this and would welcome any response as much as you might. Let's put this top again! |
