Some different hedges and how well they fit with 6mm Napoleonics and 10mm WW2: link Steve |

They look good. It looks like he uses the same method I do, using scouring pads with flocking? FWIW I have a how-to on my blog. Downside is time making them, as you mention. (My wife keeps telling me to buy ready-made trees instead of spending time making them.) link

I've done the scouring pad with flocking as well:
I used a mix of fine and course flock and I didn't try for 100% coverage either so that the dark green of the pad shows through in patches |

All great minds think alike. May I add the use of white latex glue mixed with water-based paint to help the flocking stick and a the use of a thicker viscosity version to permanently attach the hedge to an underlying substrate. |

Kieran – they look really effective – your boards look like "real world" if you know what I mean. Too often our tables look like wargamers' views of the world, so when I see someone try to make it look "real" I am always impressed. |

Thanks a lot. I went for real world more than playable (not that they aren't playable). I've sold those boards and are planning some new ones Cheers Kieran |

While I think I will definitely still buy hedges when I need lots for the battle field I will be trying out the scouring pad idea when I need hedges on scenery bases, such as farms and villages etc. Thanks for all the replies guys. |

As an alternative to scouring pad, you can try 3M steel wool (Grade 2 works best). It needs a little more work – but I think looks better, especially for slightly larger/taller hedges – still works for 6mm. |
