I'm a bit confused about something. I'm looking at building a New Kingdom Egyptian army for some battles versus the Hittites, but I can't seem to figure out if the normal infantry should have spears, hand weapons, both or what. Some rules (DBA) seem to indicate that it's not spears (Bd instead of Sp), others (AMW) indicate it's spears (although I don't think there's a difference in AMW rules), and the resources I'm looking at don't seem to say one or the other. In looking at miniatures I was going to go with Caesar Miniatures due to relative cheapness and 1/72 scale, but both of their Egyptian Infantry boxes have very few spearmen and it's mostly guys with hand weapons, which seems to not be appropriate for the timeline? As a newbie to Ancients this is a bit confusing as while I'm not going for full historical accuracy, I would think it would be out of place to mix both together. |

'Blades' in DBA is more of a state of mind than a weapons definition – it means the designers have put them in the same bracket as armoured men relying on weapons skills, rather than men relying on tight formations and shieldwalls. FWIW many of the Egyptians at Kadesh are shown with a spear in the shield hand and a hand weapon in their right hands. Phil Ancients on the Move |

I would happily mix them. Regarding them as 'Blades' and the spears thrown just prior to contact. x42 |

Ditto. Like roman legions and assyrian soldiers, NKE bulk infantry had two weapons, one spear to be thrown before contact, and one hand combat weapon, axe, khopresh or stick. |

Hmm interesting. In that case I guess it does make sense to have them mixed. |
