Hi

Having just taken up wargaming again, after 20 years away from the hobby, I find nostalgia is playing a very strong part in developments. I've just posted on this theme on my blog:

In that post I explore how Miniature Wargames magazine played into my interest in the hobby (and possibly, unbeknownst to me, even giving my blog its title!), and the changing wargaming landscape, as 'ye olde shoppes' disappear, and as the online experience helps us explore our interests and connect with likeminded enthusiasts.

TMP has certainly become an essential part of this experience for me, with a thread on here

sending me off on a very rich and fruitful exploration of the hobby, during which I found myself, road to Damascus style, encountering a conversion experience of sorts: I've never really liked 'old-school' toy soldiers. And yet, via Peter Gilder's shiny Napoleonics, such as frequently graced MW's pages, there's a bridge back to such illustrious forebears as Marcus Hinton of Hinton Hunt, or the figures sold by Tradition of London.

One thing's for sure, I gladly doff my shako to all the people here and elsewhere who share their knowledge and enthusiasm of this most exciting and, for me, obsessional hobby.

Anyhoo, I hope some of you might enjoy or relate to my musings on the subject.
Cheers,

Seb

Welcome back to the hobby, though truth be told I reckon it's a bit like booking into the Hotel California. ;-)

Welcome back to the brotherhood. I'm sure you'll find the nostalgia room not a little bit crowded (well at least I'll be there).

I have to agree with you Seb, after coming back to wargaming myself after 30 odd years. TMP is an excellent source of info, so much so I even paid them some money as I use the site so much.

It really has stimulated me to get on and paint figures and build scenery and read more history books, although disheartening that I will never be as knowledgeable or skilful as some of the contributors here
