Just purchased the rules today, no figures as yet. The figures which Steve Saleh as done for the game if anything like his Neanderthals will be bulky. Have all the Neanderthals so I know the figs for Ronin will be just as nice.

However, are there any other ranges out there that match up with them. And yes I know there are plenty of manufacturers who make samurai figs but was wondering which are the nearest to North Stars

I have Perry and the North Star bandits. NS are a little beefier and a little taller. It's ok with the armored types but its a little odd when your "peasant" type looks a better physique than a samurai warrior. I've heard Kingsford are larger than Perry but no first hand experience.

Before you pick a range, you may want to figure out a basic buntai list rather than just going with the North Star starters. Yes, they work, but they don't cover everything and there are several other options that might appeal to you in different ways.

A lot of the lines can mix and match a lot more considering that there would likely be that variety of armors on the field.

I've currently got two Buntai, the first being a mishmash of three different lines (Bombshell [Tetsu-Ko], AEG/Valiant [Caln War reprints], and GCT [Bushido]) and the other being completely from one line (Zenit's Kensei: Sohei list, but using the warrior women). Both have only 6 minis each due to simplicity there, even though they're each 200 points…

You might want a box or of Wargames Factory's Samurai or Ashigaru. Not as direct minis, as they aren't the best, but they are plastics, and their kit is rather well detailed even if the faces and similar and joints don't quite work. Strip the bits from it, and with Ronin you do tend to want corpse markers since there is both looting and head taking.

I have around 300 painted figures. I started collecting Samurai around 1996. I have a feeling I'll find what I need in my own collection. I got the rules but haven't read them yet.

What size are the Kingsford figs. Sure I've read somewhere they're 32mm. Anyone use them with NorthStars.

Do they have a outlet in UK. Been on site and figs look nice and appear quite bulky like NS. Couldn't find any reference to size and outlets other than Canada.

Any info much appreciated.

Just been browsing and saw a topic which had pictures of Steelfist samurai. From the line up with other ranges they seem they would sit nicely alongside NS.

Anyone know, or have any of their figs and be able to give a review of them.

I am working on some Steel Fist minis right now for my Ishida buntai. HIGHLY recommended. Great sculpts, and stuff you just can't find anywhere else (like bushi in black bear fur!). They are a little taller, so to disguise it a little I wound up putting a piece of plasticard under a couple of my Perry and NS figs and then scuplting the ground up around the elevation to make the base look more natural. I think they look great together. Besides…some people are taller than others anyway. :)

Hi Spartan,
Wargames Soldiers and Strategy in issue 67 describe them as 31mm. We do not have distribution in the UK but we do ship internationally. Send me an email if you'd like to ask more questions.

Steel fists models are fantastic as are their customer service. Sculpting on them is very well defined. They are a little bigger than Perrys though. Steel fist have lots of unique armour types you wont find elsewhere too. Anything in particular you want to know about them?

I dont have personal experience with Kingsford but ha e heard great things about them and they have been great with replies to emails, they would also scale well with steel fist.

Here Perry and Northstar figures are placed side by side. The swords are the main difference.
