So, I am convinced that I should give 20mm a try. I thought I would try and different theatre/era than what I have in 28mm and 15mm. North Africa has always appealed to me. Are there any high-quality 20mm manufacturers for both DAK and 8th Army (I would also add in some Italians)? I would like both infantry and a good selection of high quality tanks/artillery and vehicles. This is a fantastic message board as I have been able to answer a ton of my own questions just be reading the threads. Thanks. |

In our 20mmZone range you should find all the 8th army, DAK & Italians you could possible want/need Ian ( Shellhole & 20mmZone ) |

These are worth a look. Don't have any myself, but I know someone who does and they look good. Not too expensive either. link Then there are the Perry designed ranges from Foundry. I have the Americans in this range and they are my second favourite range after AB (but AB don't yet do desert troops) link |

Have a look at my Italians. I hope they might be inspirational. I use the Esci ones made by Italeri as they are great for conversions and nice figures. look at link I also think that no one has ever bettered the Airfix 8th Army figs. I use loads for them for conversions French Foreign Legion for example:
and good for Aussie etc too |

Ridgeback, I have been to your sight. Am I missing something somewhere because I don't see anything in your 20mm Zone for DAK (unless it is armor) or the 8th army (again, unless it is armor). ABsolutely stunning models by the way. What about infantry? |

Reiver for my money for Italians, but their Germans are more Mediterranean than North Africa. |

Wartime Miniatures in Australia have Australians for North Africa, and have some DAK to come soon along with some lovely Italians. The figures are designed by the lad who does the Battlefield Blitz stuff. His website is down at the moment but will be back up in September, the figures can't be beaten |

Axal Miniatures range of Italians from RH Models (in their WW2 range)are very nice. As are the Kelly Heroes range from Grubby Tanks. I use both. The Italian vehicles are good from 20mm Zone, the ex Skytrex but cleaned up, range. Tremendous work there Bruce. I avoid plastic as I'm never happy de-flashing them and would worry about paint peeling off if some clumsy sod dropped them etc.. |

ccmatty Sorry I was referring to vehicles offensiveBruce Lovely work & great photo's but not sure why you are offering them to me? Ian ( Shellhole & 20mmZone ) |

Personally, if I was going to do North Africa I'd go with a smaller scale. That theater is more suitable for tanks, not infantry. |
PiersBrand | 20 Jul 2014 2:38 p.m. PST |
Britannia do infantry, but Wartime are the ones to head for… Dont forget AB for vehicle and some desert gun crews. |
ccmatty | 20 Jul 2014 9:05 p.m. PST |
Piersbrand, I have admired your work for some time. Just out of curiosity what manufacturer do you favor for your eastern theatre work above in your photos? I love the AB figures by the way. |

Don Lowry, The 20mm Zone tanks look great for this theatre – at least from the DAK perspective. Trying to find the 20mm Shermans or Crusaders has been more of a challenge. |
Martin Rapier | 20 Jul 2014 11:21 p.m. PST |
Not much wrong with Airfix Crusaders apart from the elongated hulls, and you get both Mark 1 and Mark 3 versions. There isn't exactly a shortage of 20mm Shermans. |
ridgeback123 | 21 Jul 2014 6:43 a.m. PST |
We at 20mmZone have both crusaders & shermans still to be re-released Ian (20mmZone & Shellhole ) |

CC Matty, Most of my Desert stuff for Brits is OOP Battlefield, Foundry, Kellys Heroes, AB and Wartime. Italians and DAK will be Wartime too with added AB and Foundry to add variety. P |
donlowry | 21 Jul 2014 9:17 a.m. PST |
My point was that tanks need lots of room, especially in the desert, which a smaller scale would allow. |

those who know me well know of my North African campaign passion so Plastic Soldier Company will be rolling out a lot of 20mm desert love next year. We also have the first Battlegroup desert book due out next year |
Jefthing | 24 Jul 2014 11:51 a.m. PST |
After many years, I'm finally getting my desert stuff sorted. I'll be adding pictures to the site here: link Most of my British and DAK figures are Britannia; they are sturdy figures and easy to paint. My Italians are a mix but mostly Lancashire games. The vehicles come from a variety of companies; Britannia/Grubby, PSC, Italeri, Armourfast, Esci, Raventhorpe, Skytrex/20mmZone, Frontline, Minime, Airfix, Matchbox etc. I've even painted some old Airfix HD polythene Sdkfz 11s! There is a lot of good stuff out there and the service I've received from the companies above has been excellent. |
