Addressing various "storms in a teacup" which have sprung up over on Frothers, let's next deal with…

EDITOR CLAIRE & THE DATING SERVICE

Someone over at Frothers put Claire's name into an internet search, and found that someone of the same name was connected with a now-defunct dating service, associated with a partner of low repute.

Given that the Philippines has a population of around 100 million people, finding two people with the same name is not that unusual. The "dating service" Claire is 40 years old and lives on the island of Cebu; our Claire is much younger, has never been to Cebu or been a director of business for any dating service, and lives on the island of Mindanao.

So the answer is: No, Editor Claire has no connection to this dating service.

I'm very surprised anyone at Frothers can spell Clair or any other word that's not got four letters and starts with F.

I used to enjoy Frothers, foul mouths n'all. It was witty, lots of good advice, and plenty of miniature reviews. Now it's a rather pathetic shadow of what it used to be, with an extremely unhealthy obsession with TMP.
Just ignore it, don't respond to it, and maybe it'll wither entirely.

I have messaged you with this privately that it is inappropriate, and encourages exactly the type of image that you say you are trying to avoid. Your response was that you would talk to her about it, but as of today it remains unchanged. If you don't want it to look like a backstreet dating agency, you need to take positive steps to avoid it looking like one.

You have set this path up, and were warned right from the outset the trouble it would lead to. Rather than take that advice as it was intended you have blindly defended the position, with no steps to moderate it or control it, making it look all the worse.

You are slowly driving the better members away (and yes, Michael was a good contributor, both in general conversation on all topics, and specifically as a prime manufacturer of 6mm science fiction). It may have a righteous end, but it could be in a very small church…

Maybe this is a cultural thing? I've always worked for laid-back software companies, and if a new employee said "Oh, and I'm single by the way!" nobody would care. I really don't think it's a problem if she says that, but I know she's willing to change it, so will talk to her on Monday to remind her.

after reading that thread from the Lounge that you and your sycophantic mates posted I cant help feeling that you should be careful as some of that Filth will cling to you.

I've been on this forum since April 2006 and in that time I have never been Doghoused or gotten into any arguments with other members (although I have picked up 9 stifles) so don't think I'm some sort of Frothers Sleeper agent. I really have had enough of the way you run this place and that feeling has been growing, maybe that's why I haven't posted anything on here since December 2013

I like AB too, but if he posted a screenshot of the lounge on Frothers then certainly he should not be a member here. I was quite surprised it was him (if it was), as I thought he had more honor than that.

I refuse to go look at the Frothers site, never been there in my life, never will. But what someone writes on that site (or doesn't write perhaps) should not have him lambasted on this site, should it? We should ignore that site altogether and not give them any credence by giving them any sort of response here. I can understand sticking up for a person wrongfully accused, but if it isn't occurring on TMP I say stick to the high road.

Angel Barracks hasn't done anything wrong on TMP, has he? If so, then I could understand the smacking of one's hand. But if he is clean here, then there isn't any need to talk about anything here that didn't occur here. We are losing a lot of good members, members who do give TMP credibility with their insightful and helpful knowledge. It certainly is not the same site as it was five years ago. We have those who post all kinds of crud (and THANK YOU for the Ignore feature…LOVE IT!!!), and we lose good members daily.

I have said this before, and I still believe it…it is The Editor's site, he can do with it what he pleases, but seemingly the quality is being driven down by several issues. I know folks become bold behind a keyboard, and most of them would not have the testicular fortitude to act in person they way they do here, but that is the reality of the Net. But regardless, TMP seems to be losing its place a bit.
