Hey bloggers, I have a question for you. I buy my toys from certain select manufacturers and distributors, and I'd like to represent on my blog. Y'know: grommet37 uses Rebel Minis, Litko Accessories, Combat Wombat vehicles, etc. Like on an album sleeve. Would it be easy to make a sidebar on the main page of a blog with all of the various logos (as live links), and is that generally proper netiquette? Or even just listing them as links on a sidebar without logos, that should be fine, right? I'd like them there for my own convenience as well. Thanks, gentle souls of wargame land. Cheers. |

I don't see a problem with showing your support for the firms you like to use, but visitors may get an impression that you are sponsored (and therefore not independent – if that is important to you), or that your blog uses the links as revenue raising from adverts, so you may feel a need to make your position clear somehow. |

As a reader, and not a blogger I prefer naming the products used in the individual posts. I find it a little frustrating when bloggers post their work and don't reveal the make and scale of the subject. Maybe the blogger knows that company X only makes 22mm figures but I may not. |

A logo with a live link to the website is a nice thing to do and certainly wargamers who do it for Alternative Armies, 15mm.co.uk and The Ion Age are welcome to as far as I am concerned. I agree that it is a frustration if you enjoy a post and cannot learn where to get the items shown from. If you wish to remain apart and not be considered sponsored then perhaps a new page on your blog where you place these images with a short intro text. 'These are the products I use, I am not endorsed' and so on. GBS |

Its your blog. There is no etiquette. Do what you want. |

There is no etiquette. I think he was more concerned about copyright or trade marks than etiquette. |

I always try to add a link for pruducts that I am talking about, to make it easier for those that reading my post, to click on and see the product at the vendor's site this give them the option to look at that way and a chance to buy some their selves. I like to help the venders as I can let's face they don't make a lot off this hobby and any free advertising is good Plus I have links as well on the side bar |

I name the products (and directly link the names to the manufacturers) when I write about something. I also have a list of things I like in a sidebar, those are other blogs as well as manufacturers or other venues. I guess its function is similar to what you have been thinking about: Showing what inspires me… My list is rather eclectic and may change with my interests – and I keep it short, only 6-8 links, if I have a new one, some old link normally disappears. As a reader, I don't like lists where you have to scroll forever…. also, at a certain number the selection looks pretty arbitrary. Cheers, Shandy |

You would not be violating copyright laws even if you used their logo in the link. I know this as a fact. You could always make it a page in the blog. I do this at my blog for WWII soviet figs. Folks find it useful. ordinarygaming.blogspot.com |

I say you should put the links, convenient for you is convenient for us,and we might find out about a company we haven't heard of before. |

It's a bit more work, but I would give them "alt text" descriptions just in case the images aren't loading for one reason or another. |

Ask the companies involved. Usually they have a Press Package with the correct disclaimers to use. |

I post companies, but inform them. As I only do positive reviews, so far I've had nothing but "thank you's" link link

This has actually given me an idea… I'm going to make up some ClearHorizon Miniatures logos designed so people who want to post on blogs and stuff can… free to use for non-commercial stuff etc. |

I have a list of links on my blog, for all the various manufacturers of stuff I use and stuff I would like to use at some point. Anybody who visits my blog will see them. |
