It's all over Da Web today.

That Jon Snow's father is NOT Ned, but his parents are Ned's dead sister Lyanna and his dad is Rhaegar.
It all makes perfect sense, which is why it is probably not true.
This is not a SPOILER because the books have not come flat out and said it.

This will be interesting, of course, in light iof future events to come.
The books are full of the "A Dragon has three heads" prophecies.
Dany's mother died giving birth to her. And so did Jon Snow's mom, if Lyanna is she.
But, so did Tyrion's mother Joanna Lannister. Is Tyrion a Targ also? grin Do you want to see him riding dragons?
Speculate away.

My own favorite corroboration is that the 3 most bad ass knights in the King's Guard were guarding Lyanna at the Tower of Joy.
I came to this myself, wondering why Robert was so down on Rhaegar, while everybody else though highly of him. I looked for it on line, had a "Eureka!" moment and started finding my own clues.

This is my weekly "Pointless Game of Thrones" thread.

There are also some clues on line that Season 5 will have some flashbacks. Sean Bean has expressed interest in being in one of Bran's visions. It was more of a "Sure, why not? That would be cool." than actual confirmation.
It would be Way Cool to have a Tower of Joy flashback, while HBO treads water waiting for Martin to break his ankle and stay at home to write Book 6 and 7. It would tie in with bringing Jon Snow's parentage into discussion, which we have not seen since Episode 1.2. If Season 5 catches up with Jon's arc in Book 5, trouble lies ahead.

That theory (Jon is Rhaeger and Lyanna's son) has been around for a LONG time; I learning about it when I first read the books and was thinking along similar lines, and that was 10 years ago!

The problem is, as you have pointed out, it's a little TOO obvious at this point, and has been discussed so much there would be very little surprise in it (at least for fans who've discussed the books). So GRRM could have easily have something else up his sleeve, or just changed his mind and gone off in another direction. I often wonder if part the reason is takes so long for him to churn out books is that he's still re-shuffling all of the 'behind the scenes' pieces to stay a step ahead of his fans….

While I am somewhat new to GoT, having started on the books a little while back and only being up through book 3 and not watching the TV series (are those enough caveats?) I have gotten the feeling almost from the beginning that there is something classically Arthurian about Jon, that whoever he actually is he is not Ned's bastard. Just as Arthur was given to Sir Ector for protection I have always felt the same was true with Jon and Ned.

I always thought Bran would be the dragon rider.

Bran will be too busy shooting lightning bolts out his arse killing the Others. Besides, he is not a Targaryean.

Danaerys is definitely one. Jon is 95% certain to be one. And if Tyrion is the son of the Mad King and Joanna (50:50 in my humble opinion. There are clues…) there's your third.
All three will have attitudes by this time. MAJOR attitudes.

Jon's watch is ended, by the way. grin

More like he will be the Dragon and he might even be riding it.
