I'm surprised it doesn't happen more as each network tries to scoop the others, without checking the facts first. They just invite it. |

Almost 300 dead including 80 children and someone uses it as an opportunity to get a cheap laugh – what a lovely world we live in |

Yeah they should be more careful about what they report, but I believe an equal amount of blame falls on those who will sow misinformation. Especially for such a tragedy in the name of ratings. |

Only goes to prove that most TV people do not fact check any information or clear their sources before delivering it to the public. No wonder we are a confused society when they fill our heads with cotton. I am sorry for the loss of life but why didn't someone make the airspace above a war zone a no fly zone…it is now but people have had to die before making a descission and taking action. just my nickles worth of dimes |

The most surprised person was the "sergeant" who actually got through to an on air reader. No 7 second delay? This is more about the unprofessional way News operates these days than an idiot getting on the air. |

The biggest surprise was probably from Howard Stern, He does not tell people to call in and hoax the news. I'm quite sure he does nothing to stop it either. |

Well my sympathies lie with the newscaster, I thought she was struggling with a poor comms line and handled the situation very professionally. |

A very horrible tragedy. Not amusing. |

The new thing seems to be a news program showing footage with the disclaimer "which we have not been able to independently verify" as a way to get video on air quickly without the need for time-wasting fact-checking. |
goragrad | 19 Jul 2014 2:20 p.m. PST |
A bit tacky, but then so is the endless coverage when there is no new information to report. |
Dynaman8789 | 19 Jul 2014 3:36 p.m. PST |
You gotta fill a 24/7 news show with something. Most of it not being news. I do remember when the weather channel had weather though. |
Extra Crispy | 19 Jul 2014 7:57 p.m. PST |
I remember when MTV had Music and the history channel had History programs. |

My kids ask why are they repeating the same thing over and over. Yikes…Sad state of affairs. There is plenty of news but they rather report the news they have no information for. |

It would be hilarious if someone prank called Stern's show and wrapped it up by shouting "MSNBC!" ;-) |
