Could get you fined in France : link quite odd, IMHO. |

Goodness, that is wrong in so many ways! If she doesn´t appeal it will set a very bad precedent. |

I believe it was just a pre-trial hearing, which resulted in an injunction. Apparently, she didn't bring a lawyer and doesn't appear to want to contest the case in an actual trial, which is a shame. Shrug. |

"she didn't bring a lawyer and doesn't appear to want to contest the case in an actual trial, which is a shame." A shame ?! Are you going to offer to pay her lawyer ? |
Extra Crispy | 17 Jul 2014 6:28 a.m. PST |
I can't imagine it will hold up. The same argument could be made about Michelin Guides, front page or prominent newspaper articles etc. |
20thmaine | 17 Jul 2014 6:32 a.m. PST |
Well, she's taken down the review, and she's got a fine to pay. Couldn't really lose more (except for bigger fine….) |
ViscountEric | 17 Jul 2014 6:44 a.m. PST |
Well, that's going to lower my review of France. |
Dynaman8789 | 17 Jul 2014 7:12 a.m. PST |
Extra Crispy – Newspapers and Michelin DO get sued, but they consider that part of the business expense and they fight it out in court. As for France, don't they have some lawyers that would take this on for free? Just remembered – this is France where google is forced to remove links that are critical of XY or Z… |

Can't wait until all the big corporations here* in the states jump on that bandwagon. *Well, HQ'd in Ireland. |

I only give reviews of wargame companies who I feel do an outstanding job, inovative products but no marketing budget. Here's 2 I did earlier: link link |

I will say what I want and as long as its not libelous they can go to hell. |

Use the star rating system, I give the country that invented the 'modern' revolution, * for its judicial system but then I'd give very few stars for any government system world wide, we are in a murky mud ankle deep with it all, Can you be penalised for using the star rating? What is the price of freedom? Cheers |

I would say how typically French, but anymore I could see this kind of stupidity happening just about anywhere. |
Mako11 | 17 Jul 2014 2:00 p.m. PST |
Since I don't have any plans to visit France anytime in the near future, it's pretty much a non-issue, but I'll keep this in mind for the next time they need to be saved from enemy combatants. From what I've read, France isn't the only country to restrict free speech in the EU. |
GarrisonMiniatures | 17 Jul 2014 2:12 p.m. PST |
The trouble with free speech is that everyone has a different idea on what it is. How many countries who claim to have free speech also have laws regarding slander and libel? There have to be limits, different people have diferent limits. Of course, your own set of limits are always obvious, the other guys are wrong – too restrictive or too liberal, doesn't matter. |
Sparker | 17 Jul 2014 3:33 p.m. PST |
People often make the mistake of thinking France is a free and democratic country because of its history and the fact its in Western Europe. When you get away from the rhetoric the facts are that there is little freedom of speech or representative government, and certainly no equality before the law. Don't get me wrong, I love France and would happily live there – but its a strongly centralised state run by and for the upper middle class technocrats and Eurocrats… I invite anyone who doubts me to try to organise a peaceful demonstration in Paris that might embarras the French State – on behalf of the Dalai Lama during a Chinese State visit for example, and see how long your freedom of expression and assembly lasts, and how long it would then take you to seek redress through the courts… |
lou passejaire | 18 Jul 2014 2:37 a.m. PST |
it's not a problem of democracy, it's a problem of business . it was the bashing against a restaurant who bring to this decision . and, as in your country, dear US citizen, some individual judges are incompetent . for the freedom of expression and assembly , we have a problem , indeed |

Unless, Sparker, you happen to be a French farmer or fisherman. In which case you can block roads or blockade ports to your heart's content and the police will just stand around and watch you. |

Likewise French firefighters, blocking the Tour de France today. |
