Ok so I'm planning a new Western scenario using TRWNN to run at a con and I have a few ideas. Which sounds most appealing as a player? Any suggestions for improvements? Thanks!

1) 3:10 to Yuma: Basically just like the movie. The posse has a high chance of all members losing nerve except one. Wade's gang are trying to rescue him. I plan to introduce a third faction, a small group of powerful gunmen whose goal is to kill Wade before he can escape (and therefore they would fight both outlaws and posse). I actually gave this game a try and it turned out OK but felt sort of same-old to me.

2) A more "cowboy" oriented game where a small group of farmers are herding their cattle in to market trying to beat the big rancher to get the prime spots at auction. Cattle would have to be herded to a certain spot in a time limit with armed cowboys opposing the farmers. The local law enforcement and civilians might also make up a third or even fourth faction. Might even change setting from American west just to make it unique.

3) A more chaotic "Tarantino-esque" shootout with multiple small factions each with their own goal. Say one group take revenge on the members or another, who are trying to rob the bank, who are thwarted by a couple local outlaws robbing a saloon, who are opposed by the local law, who are caught in a range war. Etc. My only reservation here is this might get confusing.

Thanks!

I would go with 3. Confusing can be good.

Agree number 3, would let you keep it rolling as well

I actually have been running Old West games at shows on and off for 20 years. My games are fairly well known locally. I run up to 24 players. I have created faction cards. A faction card is randomly drawn which lists the characters and objective for the group. Its counterpart is then placed in play too. I have loads of them. Instant game scenarios and never boring. I tend to use characters and factions based on TV series and movies. The Man with No Name, The Duke, James West and Artemus Gordon, Pinkertons, Federales, Banditos, Texas Rangers, Ranchers, Tong gang, Anti-Chinese League, Lone Ranger and Tonto and lots more.

Thanks,

John

Thanks all. Sounds like a great idea John! I have been running Old West games for about 4 yrs and surprisingly I'm one of the few to do so in the North Texas area (though the folks from Blackwater Gulch have been active here lately) but don't have an operation nearly as refined as yours. I'm thinking option three is the winner but I'm open for more ideas.
