Very nice!

While I've had no difficulty painting Foundry, Reaper, and several other newer lines of beautifully sculpted figures, I was always intimidated by Essex. Yours look good, though!

Who painted all his own shields (though not this well) years ago before the newfangled shield decals came out

I agree Essex can be difficult to paint, Thank you for your kind words .

The shields turned out pretty good . My friend did a great job for me.

Very nice work!

I have several 120mm bases of these to paint up. I like Essex's minis, but they are rather hard to get (the 25mm ones) here in the states.

I used to use white primer almost exclusively. I never did like the look of black priming, feeling it tended to mute the colors. However, I've switched over to the Army Painter sprays for base coating, and am now a convert to their system.

Good job Joe! You can never have too many hoplites. Next tome try the shields yourself – I think you can paint as well as Tim!

Ah, you just can't beat a nicely painted Hoplite phalanx!

Great work. I love the skirmishers hovering about the phalanx too. Very cool.

Shame Essex was not consistent about their ranges – the hoplites and Greek range were excellent.

Nice job of these guys.

Thanks everyone. Essex is either hit or miss, their is a lot of flat areas which make it easy to paint.

And you can never have enough hoplites. So true!

Again thanks guys

Nice job! I have always found Essex figures easy to paint; depends on painting style I guess. They have gone back and resculpted some of their older ranges, greatly improving the anatomy. The Greeks were always nice figures though.
