Bit of a question inspired by my son.

Has anyone don't chariot/NASCar style races using the X-Wing miniatures?

Were there any special rules or requirements or limits?

I pictured something like Ben Hur. Maybe no shooting as I imagine it would just turn into a battle.

What no shooting!

Where is the fun in that.

Just read this on BGG that may be of interest to you:

I know there have been a fair number of racing fighter games, though the only one off the top of my head is V.I.P.E.R. I'll see if I can find any in BGG, or the increasingly difficult to access personal 'little grey cells'.

Haven't read far enough into the BGG discussion to know if they've been covered, but a) 'runaway leader' problems in a combat-included race can be somewhat mitigated by laps, and b) 'just turn into a battle' by some kind of penalty for taking shots. Power drain/slow speed or off-course maneuver to take shot come to mind.

Imagine 'I'm in second place: Do I take the shot at No. 1 as she laps me, and slow enough for No. 3 to pass me?'

Edit: I recall this as looking silly, but didn't notice it had missiles and mines: The Great Space Drag Race

I've noticed The great Space Race too. It certainly has weapons. I am tempted to try it some time myself, silly or not.

Thank you thedrake. I had a look last night and the link sounds excellent.

Thank you too TheBeast. Next stop on the list.

NASCAR races??

Why would you need more than one turning template??

But I think adapting it to chariots could be fun… maybe anti-grav chariots, pulled by alien beasts!

Oh, wait…

MM, I actually thought of several 'race' games, and even think modifying Formula D[e] could be a real kick!

May have to borrow a friends, and dig out some MicroMachines to give it a go. ;->=

I was thinking that you could justify the tight course as caves in an asteroid ala Empire Strikes Back, when I remembered FASA did a Tunnel Chase for Last Starfighter.

Someone drew up board from same on BGG. You have to be a member to download.

I saw a very nice Star Wars pod racing game some years back on the UK show circuit…….I have collected a half dozen 15 mm grav bikes of different styles for a 'racing game' (weapons optional!).

Doug – Can I recommend you take a look at the game Rallyman from France?

I play Formula De with their cars (beautiful minis) always thought the time card mechanic and the swerving course could make a good asteroid race game…

For fun, I did an X-Wing v. TIE race using standard X-Wing rules. And yes, that should have been a guaranteed win for the TIE, BUT I made the race be through a large asteroid field, through and back. The TIE took off to a great start… and slammed into an asteroid for a Crit… Double Damage. Undaunted, he zipped through and around, well ahead of the X-wing (but closer than you'd think)… only to slam into another asteroid on the way back, rolling yet another hit. The X-wing won by default!
