Wasn't Dillons regiment also partly Swiss?

When identifying Swiss units during the period, especially after 1803 and the Act of Mediation in Switzerland and the new treaty with France for Swiss troops supplied to France thereafter, it is also necessary to determine what percentage of troops in those Swiss regiments were actually Swiss.

The Swiss treaty with France that gave France four Swiss infantry regiments of 4,000 men each, Switzerland agreed not to supply troops to anyone else. Napoleon was picky about new recruits for his Swiss regiments, ensuring that they were actually Swiss.

The British weren't as picky, and the nominally Swiss also contained Germans and other nationalities. They actually became in fact if not in name, a sort of foreign legion.

Sincerely,
M

Whether that is an accurate assessment or not, and the Grande Armee was quite different from the old Royal Army, whatever their opinions, the Swiss served well and ably, especially in Russia. Their stand at the Berezina was epic.

dear m.

De Britten waren niet zo kieskeurig, en het nominaal Zwitserse bevatte ook Duitsers en andere nationaliteiten. Ze werden eigenlijk in feite als niet in naam,
een soort vreemdelingenlegioen.

Met vriendelijke groet, like me I am taking a side road greetings serge joe

The Osprey book by Rene Chartrand on Foreign Troops in British Service, 1803-1815 is an excellent reference on this topic.
