"If there's one thing that the full-length trailer for the eighth season of BBC's Doctor Who wants you to know, it's that this isn't your father's Doctor Who anymore well, kinda. For all the efforts made to play up the idea that this isn't the same Doctor, maybe he's scary and dark (he even says he's taking the TARDIS into darkness, raising all manner of hackles for those of us still smarting over last year's Star Trek movie), there's a lot that's very familiar in this 60-second tease featuring new Doctor Peter Capaldi. Take, for example, the the Daleks, who last appeared in Season 7 opener, Asylum of the Daleks. Sure, the opening narration they provide is a tad more optimistic and affirmative than usual life returns, life prevails, the mechanical voice stutters, making a pleasant change from the usual Exterminate but they're hardly anything new to anyone who's seen Who before…" Full article and video here link Amicalement Armand |

Best Doctor ever was Tom Baker.
Had the best companions as well.

I still say Sarah Jane was the best companion ever. |

Also, they already did the 'dark and morally ambiguous' Doctor with Colin Baker (who I felt was underrated as the Doctor but how much of that was down to his HORRIBLE costume?). And I *liked* Star Trek Into Darkness so no hackles raised here lol. I'm also not sure what the article is talking about when it refers to Capaldi being unusual as a 'Doctor over 30': "It's all sleight of hand, of course, playing on the idea that just maybe Capaldi's Doctor will break with tradition in more ways than being over 30 and not immediately obvious heartthrob material." Er I'm pretty sure William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant were all over thirty when they played the Doctor, and even Peter Davison (who was unusually young to play the Doctor) was thirty when he got the role. The only actor YOUNGER than thirty that played the role was Matt Smith; if anything Capaldi is returning to the tradition of an older Doctor, not breaking it. I suspect the writer of the article didn't do their homework! Lol |

Tom Baker was the best. Sylvester McCoy on the other hand… |
