Looking for some ideas on good figures for Late Roman commanders.
I have Trajan ( Foundry) and Marcus Aurelius ( Warlord) for my early Imperials and Russell of course ! . A&A make some nice personality types for Middle Imperial Roman leaders. I can't find any obvious ones for the Late / Patrician Roman period from early 4th century to late 5th century. Would they typically be cavalry types or cataphracts perhaps or light horse?.
Cheers

Hi Mike, I have lots of Aventine figs and they are excellent ! I didn't think they do an Late Roman range though? I use their beautiful cataphracts as Early and Middle Imperial commanders.

IMHO, I would use their command figures for your needs. I think that there was not that much of a change, but I could be wrong!!!!. Mike Adams

I used Musketeer Miniatures mounted command for later period generals. Specifically, for Aetius and friends at Chalons. They seemed to work well.

Thanks caliban, had a look at the Musketeer site and they do look the business. Do you know if they fit in well with ranges such as A&A and Gripping Beast?

Cheers

Muskateer is a good idea.

Does anyone, perchance, know of a general in a Pannonian cap? I'd love to have a Patrician in Pannonian.

Look at the Foundry Arthurian late Roman line and Gripping Beast also Arthurian late Roman line. Their is one figure in each line that will fit your needs Dragonfan79. Both figures are in a Personality pack!

As Paul has said Musketeer has some great Personality, that can easily be converted to look like Late Romans, especially for Aetius!!!

Just returned to this thread, and I'd say that Musketeer figs would fit in well with A&A and Gripping Beast, at least in terms of size. Style of sculpting is somewhat different, but not so much that you'd notice on a tabletop, and for that period you'd probably want a little bit more variation anyway.
