Can some one help me with what the facing colors of the 13th's trumpeters might have been in Spain say around 1809 or 1810. Thanks. Runicus |

Here is 2 pics from two different time periods which almost look to be the same. Hope this helps you out and if you can't see the pics let me know.

Thank you so very much James…that will work perfectly. Runicus
p.s. I used the spare body of a Perry hard plastic dragoon to make my trumpeter. All I have to do is shave the chevrons off the sleeves. |

This is great General Brock. I also plan to create the French Army in Spain. Every little bit helps. Traveller |

Was the 13th the unit who at some period had Spanish brown cloth jacket and overalls? It was the only unit of Cuirassiers in Spain? Or am I dredging up old coffee pot grains? Anyway nice info. Cheers. |

It was Zargon. Unfortunately only used for IS ops, rather than with the Field Armies, but still an interesting unit… Some more discussion here: TMP link |

From poor memory, the brown cloth was used by individuals as uniforms wore out, not the whole regiment. Individual squadrons of French cuirassiers were sent to Spain in (?) 1808. I think there were 2 such provisional regiments at one time. Some were surrendered at Baylen, as I recall. Poor memory suggests that squadrons of the 1 and 2nd Carabiniers (bearskins, and no cuirasse) plus the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Cuirassiers formed the 13th. There was talk of letting the Carabiniers retain their bearskins, WITH the new cuirasse of the 13th. The 13th served longest with Suchet, along with the 24th dragoons and the 4th Hussars. The Westphalin chevauleger serve with them as well for a time. GdeP |
