Hello As title said..i would like to use some of these old toys for my wargame armies…i'm not a maniac purost about absolute reality..but neither i want to field close to my carefully researche and painted metal and resin 20mm /1:72 models something totally out of scale and sense…so in the sake of recruiting everythin cheap and ready made ..do you think that those poly models could be ok once pianted, modified , based? where they the same dimensions of the equivalent kits but in soft plastic?..in paticularly i was thinking about the quad plus 25 pdr and about the self propelled US gun thanks again for your appreciated advice

Hi italwars, used to use these all the time. The poly models are unavoidably cruder than the proper kits but they're the same scale as airfix kits so no reason not to. The landing craft and dukw were especially useful, a s you don't use them every day, but nobody seems to stock them anymore. The 25 pdr very useful, the M40 sp howitzer not as useful as the US didn't make many and only a handful saw action iirc. The Panther and tiger are lot cruder than the kits but maybe could be improved. |

The U/S truck was always very usable for both American & Russian forces Ian ( Shellhole & 20mmZone ) |

I have a couple of these and wondered the same thing. They have a certain nostalgic value "as-is" though, and I haven't been able to bring myself to paint them. |

My mate Jabo 44 had a load of these and considered painting them, but they didn't take paint easily. I suppose you would have to use the old plastic soldier trick of liberally coating them in PVA glue first, but I dread to think what that would do to what little detail there is… |

"Back in the day" (for us known as early/mid 70s), we painted them with Testors small bottle enamel paints. No washing or other preparation. The paint did not exactly slough off, but playing garden war games, did take a toll. Guf |

Memories! We certainly used them back in the 70's but they don't stand comparison with any but the crudest resin models of today. I wouldn't have thought they were a cheap option , to judge from e-bay prices, unless you are already sitting on a hoard from the past. I do however still have a couple of US trucks that I would be prepared to use, as I'm not so fussy about trucks. If it was me I'd sell them on e-bay and use the proceeds to buy nice new tanks that will better complement the infantry on which you have lavished attention. |

I had a lot of them in the late 60's early 70's & gamed with them in some quite unrealistic scenario's. As better more interesting models appeared, the poly ones ended up being binned. By some mistake I junked all the 6x6 trucks too, they could have been useful. They served their purpose @ the time & gave enjoyable amounts of fun. Enough said ! |

I would have thought Armourfast and Plastic Soldier Co stuff was a better bet all round. If I had the Airfix lorries I'd use them unpainted-great little models. |

back in the day my friend used the 6x6 truck for his germans. he cut off the winch and made into a 4x4, to represent an opel blitz, as you could not get the esci ones very easily then. |
