Can anyone tell me if the 3 Line battalions would have putout a skirmish screen in the 1815 campaign. Also were the light battalions all able to skirmish? The reason I ask is I can't find any reference to these questions, and the battalions were newly raised and might not have had the time to train in this way. |

G'Day Jim, I recall reading that in 1813, that in one Prussian Battalion, the men were so new, and never instructed in skirmishing, that the Battalion Commander released his men en debandade (as a mob)… Therefore if nothing else…at least as tirailleurs en debandade… Best Regards Art |

Page 191 onwards of "Exercir-Reglement für die Herzoglich Braunschweigische Infanterie (drill book), Braunschweig 1815" PDF link relates to skirmishers (this refers to both line & light) – however it is not clear to me whether this was produced before or after the 1815 campaign. There may be clues in " Geschichte des Herzoglich Braunschweigischen Infanterie-Regiments [Nr. 92] und seiner Stammtruppen, 1809-[1902]" |
