Am seeking information on French Army Pontooniers during the Napoleonic period. Have located one or two references off the Internet and some information from Osprey publication and Chaudry & Hourtoulle plates. Anyone refer me to further information please? Thanks |

You can find some more uniform plates on the Mont St Jean site. It also includes details of the organisation in 1815 (Click on a unit, go to 'Uniformes' then click on the Etat-Major tab): link |

G'Day Tom There is on the internet: Le Guide Du Pontonnier, Memoire Sur les Ponts Militaires published in 1820… It is a second edition to an earlier version in 1815 that was not published, with quite a bit of referencing to the Napoleonic period. Best Regards Art |

See pages 394 et seq of "Histoire de l'artillerie française" by General Susane. Also see "Esquisse historique de l'artillerie française depuis le moyen-âge jusqu'à nos jours, avec un atlas de 64 planches" by A de Moltzheim. This latter work has a useful Table showing the theoretical strengths of the various branches that made up the artillery arm (the pontooniers formed part of this arm). |
