I'm looking for some Kislev proxies for Warhammer, what Slavic/Kievan/Russian historical figures from which manufacturers would fit the bill? Maybe medieval Russia and Poland? The old Kislev figures are from the mid 90s and are heroic 28mm scale, and I need historical Cossack/Hussar figures (?) that match the aesthetic. Suggestions? |

This is for a Mordheim warband by the way. This guy auction seems to have the right idea, but I'd like to see close-ups of the actual figures |

Old Glory can work as well. I also found Warmachine has some figures in one of their factions (kossar?). Front Rank has a few mounted cossack figures across their ranges that would work as well. |

One of my friends uses TAG cossacks and Poles for his Kislev-style empire army, they even have artillery, priests and cavalry. Some pics here: link |

I also found Warmachine has some figures in one of their factions (kossar?). Indeed, Warmachine's Khador faction has several possibilities. Kossite Woodsmen, Widowmakers and maybe Winterguard could work. There is a discussion of Khador as proxies here: link |

I have about 50 Kislev GW foot and almost that many mounted both horse archers and winged lancers. Re matching the GW Kislev foot, the Foundry, Old Glory, TAG, Warmachine, others all work fine. The GW figures are not overly tall or overly "heroic" in proportion, so matching foot is very easy. I would mix any and all of these on the same base with my only concern being style of dress (not sculpt height or mass). Re matching the GW Kislev mounted, it is more a problem. No other manufacturer's horses even come close to matching GW horses, so your first decision is what horses to use; not all manufacturers' horses even go well with each other. The horse archer GW rider figures can be decently matched with other manufacturers, but the winged lancer rider figures are very "heroic" in scale and are far more difficult. The only figures I found close are some Redoubt ones. |

In a pinch you can get plastic horses from maybe Warlord or Perry and remount all your riders for a more uniform look. Or maybe your lancers will be on larger horses while the cossacks are on ponies. |

Perry Horses are a bit thin in the saddle and also lack girth. I shaved the back saddle ridge off and had to model a saddle extension. The Warlord horses seemed to fit nicely though with little fuss. Warlord horses are smaller too. |
