I just received pictures from Richard Ansell today depicting the French Cuirassiers du Roi figures that we are adding to the range. Please take a look and let me know what you think. If you see anything that needs to be changed, now is the time to speak up. For more information, please visit my blog at: link Officer:
Standard Bearer:
Trumpeter:
Trooper:
And here is a little preview of something else in the works:
This is Maurice de Saxe at the Battle of Fontenoy in 1745, shown riding in his wicker carriage during the battle. The carriage was made by Westphalia Miniatures and the figure was made by Richard Ansell, as part of a joint project between our two companies. More to follow.
Minden will also be adding the Volontaires de Saxe uhlans that escorted Marshal Saxe on campaign. Richard has finished these sculpts as well and I will be posting pictures on my blog and on TMP within another day or two. |

OOOHHHH – pretty – not my period, but lovely lovely miniatures. |

Looking very good DAF. Old Saxe was rather ill on the day in question and was surrounded by apothecaries

I am sure the OFM will find a good use for that figure. |

Hmmmmm…. Nice sedan chair material. Would that be a tartan blanket on his knees? When I get one, it will be. |

I was never sure whether the Cuirassiers du Roi trumpeter would be in a bearskin or a tricorne but I'm sure you have a good source for the former. Anyway, lovely figures of one of my favourite regiments and favourite commanders. Minden are becoming harder and harder to resist! |

Duc de Brouilly: yes, we debated that same issue too and turned up some uniform plates depicting the trumpeter wearing the bearskin.
We figured that if were wrong, then the range still had the heavy cavalry trumpeter in tricorn that could be used as a substitute. When in doubt, go for the spectacular over the mundane. Fritz |

Spectacular indeed! |
Musketier | 10 Jul 2014 12:09 p.m. PST |
Wonderful stuff! Spectacular indeed – French Cuirassiers du Roy trumpeters may have worn the tricorne, but those of the Grand-Duchy of Champagne will definitely wear the bearskin! Very much looking forward to the Marshal's black escorts – and I definitely second de Ligne's suggestion of a quack or two in attendance. |

One tiny niggle though: Do you have evidence for an officer wearing moustaches? The only portraits I've seen are clean-shaven… |
Duc de Brouilly | 10 Jul 2014 12:23 p.m. PST |
Tend to agree with Musketier on this. The officer, in the same series of plates as the trumpter above, is shown as clean-shaven. |

Sedan chairs with quacks in attendance? The OFM will be thrilled. |
John Clements | 10 Jul 2014 12:58 p.m. PST |
Lovely figures as always. Only yesterday I was wondering about seeing if I could add de Saxe in his carriage to the Eureka 100 Club list, as it is an obvious omission even from the more 1740's oriented ranges – now you've saved me the trouble and several years waiting time! But I guess this doesn't mean that you're edging towards the earlier period? |
Der Alte Fritz | 10 Jul 2014 1:03 p.m. PST |
@John Clements: we could be. Crann Tara Miniatures has already released its WAS British infantry and they are working on some French infantry, so I thought that the Volontaires de Saxe would fit right in with 1745. We have more plans in this era in the future. |

Thank you for the catch on the officer's moustache. This is very helpful. Can we assume that the officer, standard bearer and trumpeter should all be clean shaven and only the trooper wears a moustache? link |

We have more plans in this era in the future. Chasseurs de Fischer? |
Duc de Brouilly | 10 Jul 2014 1:33 p.m. PST |
Can we assume that the officer, standard bearer and trumpeter should all be clean shaven and only the trooper wears a moustache? I would agree. My Rigo plate (AR series) shows a clean-shaven cornet with the standard. |

One more thing, since the picture only shows the left side of the Marshall's face: Contemporary portraits, including his tomb effigy in Strasbourg, show Maurice wearing a gold ring in his right earlobe – substantial enough to show in 30mm, I would think. By the way, could we have a version of him on a better day at some future point, on horseback in three-quarter armour? I know he would not have worn that in battle, but since we're settling for "spectacular"? It would also make a great statue…

A Maurice personality figure on horseback is a distinct possibility in the future. He does bear a resemblance to the French marshal figure that is already in the Minden range. |

I love the Maurice figure. Very nice. Using the above illustration as inspiration is a very good idea. Maybe you can persuade your sculptor to match it even closer to the fine drawing an have Maurice looking sideways or slightly backwards. That adds so much more"leadership-I'm-in-command-of-it-all" sort of aspect. Also the Cuirassiers are very well done. Cheers, Christian crogges7ywarmies.blogspot.com |

Those cuirassiers look like the goods. |

Those are very nice. I looked on the Crann Tara Miniatures blog. "In addition I am also stocking the majority of his equipment range and his civilians/labourers from the Minden range. I will also be stocking the Government Highlanders from this range (not listed yet). " Am I correct in thinking he/they're not going to be stocking the bulk of the Minden range? Is there a UK distributor who will be stocking the whole range? I have had bad experiences in the past with customs and excise on parcels from the States. |
