Does anyone make 15mm British Legion infantry that is compatable with Essex figures?

Which style helmet are you looking for? There is more than one theory. If you go with Don Troiani's theory figures made for the Queen's Rangers might be close:

Lancashire games do a pack wearing Tarleton helmets, they look a little too much like dismounted Legion horsemen for my liking but they pass muster in my army.

QRF do them, compatible with Essex and there is a sale on.

Peter Pig has some foot troops in Tarletons.

Have you ever seen Charles McBarron's painting of Cowpens? Here's a link to a small image of it:

If you look closely at the mixed British and Loyalist figures in the foreground, you'll see McBarron's interpretation of the uniform of Tarleton's Legion infantry. It looks a lot like Troiani's version, but is a lot plainer (no lace, roundabout jackets.) The light infantry caps on McBarron's soldiers are also plainer.

I never attempted this, but I always thought that Minifigs' 15mm British light infantry figure would be a close match for these figures.

Here's a link to some more Cowpens/Tarleton's Legion inspiration for you:

Doesn't Old Glory 15s do them? Also, if you like the larger 15s (18s), then have a look at Blue Moon Manufacturing – again not sure if they have them, yet. Afraid I've forgotten where I got mine – think it was Old Glory 15s. Well, just took a look at their website and they do have a pack but the photo they show doesn't ring any bells – or even look right in any way to my thinking. Only found cavalry at Blue Moon.

WIth so little reliable source information, you can't really go wrong with what you choose to use. Anyone who argues your choice is wrong, insist they provide original source documentation to support their case. For the infantry, can't really be done as far as I know.

Worth bearing in mind that the QRs wore "miserable contract hats" until re-clothed at the end of 1780/early 1781. Thus it is quite possible that the newly-raised BL infantry wore hats, and not caps.

"Brutal Virtue" by Antony Scotti is a history of the BL under Tarleton; it contains photos of Scotti in re-enactment uniform that looks remarkably like a British infantryman in cut-down regimental coat (waistcoat same colour) wearing a Tarleton helmet. Unfortunately, the photos are in B&W, so it's not possible to tell if the uniform is red or green.

Since the hat they wore is pretty much guesswork I would go by whatever figure you like and paint it green.
I have a few stands of Perry and Foundry pimp hat boys in green for mine.
