I am at the stage of rounding out the Brits and wanted some suggestions of a ubiquitous Loyalist unit leaning to southern campaigns- what figures (mfg and type) to use and painting guides. Pictures of your suggestions would be great. Thanks, Mark |

I have Tarleton's Legion with Old Glory figures, probably would go with Perry if I were to do it over. I personally like green coated Loyalists |

Me too
the green coated Loyalists stand out in a British army. I think I used OG British Light Infantry, but as the Ghost says, Perry makes specific miniatures. link Chalfant |

British Legion cavalry. And a few generic red coat Loyalists. I would use either Continentals or slouch hat LI types. Or both! |

The good thing about the Queen's Rangers is that they often had other units (not just Loyalists) attached to them – in 1781 they had New York Vounteers (mounted riflemen) and a company of Hessian jaeger under Ewald. |

I'd vote for the Queen's Rangers. You'll get both mounted and foot and, as Lord Elpus said, can add other attachments. This will give you a good start: link Jim |

Perry's QR are hard to beat. (Unless I am rolling the dice for them) |

For the Southern campaign your choices for green coated loyalists is limited since most of the Provncial Corps were wearing red uniforms. You have Tarleton's Legion, and the 1st American Regiment. With the 1st American Regiment (QR), you have Dragoons, Rifles, Light Infantry, Highlanders, Hussars, Grenadiers, Line. The Queens Rangers still existed as a mechanized unit in the Canadian Army, or did when I met them at Monmouth in 1978. |

The Royal Yorkers also gives you an option for using all the "Saratoga" caps in the Perry plastic British box. |

Is there no love for Delancey's Brigade? |

The OFM suggested generic red coat Loyalists. There is your DeLancey brigade. |

Generic red coat loyalists with blue facings can represent a number of loyalist units present in the south towards the end of the war such as: The Royal North Carolina Regt Prince of Wales American Regt The Kings American Regiment New York Volunteers (also buff facings reported but prob replaced with blue) Some of DeLanceys may have switched from green to blue facings in the south later in the war but I may be misremembering. More unique units include the British Legion whose cavalry were present at many actions in the south from 1780 onwards, including a troop of the 17th Light Dragoons. The volunteers of Ireland are an interesting unit but really only feature at Camden and Hobkirk's Hill and can't easily do double duty as other loyalists. |

If you are collecting Loyalist units for the Southern Theatre, then a few of these guys would be useful:
