Going to try a bit of an experiment after some encouragement. Gamers want regular support for their games, new TO&E's, scenarios etc. I want caffeine, beer and food. If you're one of the people who bought Five Men in Normandy, FiveCore or you remember me from FAD and want more gaming goodness, swing by Patreon and pledge to support. patreon.com/fivecoregames Essentially, I'd like to do some fairly substantial free rules bits or release a few supplements on a "pay what you want" basis and Patreon can help support that. If you aren't familiar, you essentially pledge whatever amount per month you feel is fair, and I'll put out free updates, expansions and whatnot. If this can get to a hundred bucks a month or so, I imagine roughly 10 pages of new gaming material each month. The initial plan is to focus on FiveCore/Five Men stuff but a new version of FAD, rpg's and any other stuff the supports are interested in, is certainly a possibility.
Brilliant idea? Crazy hubris? Only one way to find out.

Interesting. What kind of stuff are we looking at here? What are you obligated to do? |

Brilliant idea! Crazy hubris! I accidentally clicked on the FiveCore news post today, and I am glad I did. It intrigues me. |

Tgunner – What I'd like to do is get to a point where each month, I can do about 10 pages of gaming material for Five Men / FiveCore, for free or as a "Pay what you want" in addition to the regular paid games and supplements. |

With monthly rather than per-project pledges you're not actually bound to produce anything, but of course your patrons will just cancel in short order if there's no content forthcoming (not that I'm suggesting that would happen). You might have better luck with a pay-per-release format, the couple of webcomics I've tossed money at do it that way and it seems to make patrons more confident, as well as motivating the creators more effectively. Note that patrons can still cap their monthly donations no matter how much stuff you release, so the content-based payment format won't bleed people white if you have an unusually productive month. All in all, Patreon's a neat alternative to other crowdfunding platforms. Much more freeform and less formal, with lower risk-reward for patrons, but it is a fairly unproven model yet. Have to wonder if creators wouldn't do just as well to deal direct with their fan base, but Patreon might be a good way to build that base in the first place. |

yeah, I considered that as well though in that case, I guess it becomes more of a pre-pay option. This is all fairly new stuff and I don't know if I even have the fan base yet to make it a thing, but you won't know unless you try. |
