Before I spend what seems to me to be a small fortune on the book version of these rules I'd like to get an opinion from the group. Has anyone played them? If so what's your opinion? Are they worth the money? TIA |

If you like RPGs this is your game. You get to level up your squad. its a little too involved for me. I bought the core rules and the Despatches no.1, but not my cup of tea. If you're interested in the books, pm me. |

One of the best written modern skirmish sets I have read so far. Radio Dish Dash have the PDF at £7.50 GBP so if in doubt try that first. |

Thanks to everyone for the help and links. I'm not into RPG's at all and given the cost for the book at $44.00 USD+ US I 'll pass. but thanks again. I really appreciate the help. |

Im thinking on buying SS. It says it focuses on Afghanistan and I wonder what makes it "specific" to Afghanistan? In other words can the rules be used for other conflicts? Navy SEALS doing a small raid in Somalia, some FFL troopers in Mali? Basically substituting other oppos as Talibans. It should work |

soledad, Despite the title, there is nothing about the rules that is particularly specific to Afghanistan; they can be used for any current day (or very recent) scenario involving regular forces and insurgents. Jurgen |

any current day (or very recent) scenario involving regular forces and insurgents. Is it able to handle regular vs regulars as well or are there mechanics built in that require adjustment (besides regular dice rolls like hit, weapons chosen, etc) if one side isn't irregular? Also, is it backwards compatible, meaning weapons from periods before 200+ are either covered specifically or using generic categories ("assault rifle", "bolt action rifle")? I like the idea of the smaller figure count but I'd use it for cold war or African imagi-nation set in the 60-70's where regulars could encounter better trained groups or advisors (ex. Rhodesians vs Soviets). |

Striker, I have used the rules for games set in the Rhodesian bush wars; all that we did was to create stats for weapons like the SLR. They work perfectly well for regulars v regulars as well. Jurgen |

Thanks. I've been waffling on getting them but nobody locally was interested in Iraq or Afghan games. |
