As a follow up to my topic on 1-56 scale model Sherman tanks I was looking at the wonderful Company B Decals that you can use to make your 28 mm models that more impressive and authentic looking. link So I am going to start working on about a platoon plus of American Infantry circ D-Day and beyond and was wondering which of the units available with the Company B decals should I go with. I am kind of partial to the 35th Infantry badges because of the movie Kelly's Heroes. However, I considered going with 1st Infantry Division as they were also in North Africa so I could get double duty out of my American infantry figures. BTW my American 28 mm figures are a mix of Black Tree Design,Artizan, Crusader and older Bolt Action. Another thought is to go with the Armored Infantry decals and they could be just about any theater. Thoughts, things historically I should be aware of

There's two trains of thought here: 1: Pick a specific unit, research them and go with them and be "faithful". 2: Make them generic guys who could show up anywhere where Americans thought. I tend towards the latter but the former seems really appealing and it's a fun excuse to do some reading too. |

I like your idea about the 1st ID and often thought about the 3rd Inf Div. as thet were in Africa, Italy & France plus they have Audie Murphy. I didn't see a decal for them but their patch isn't too difficult link |

Remember that the 3rd was in Southern France, not Normandy. They came ashore in Dragoon. Also remember that a lot of GIs didn't wear their rank or patches in combat, stripes in particular made you a target. Bill Mauldin wrote in "Up Front" about having to sew everything back on when you came off the line because the MPs would give you a hard time. |

Officers also didn't wear the marks on their helmets since that made them targets. Germans were the same. |

The 29th has an easy one to replicate with paint or markers. |
