After releasing Five Men in Normandy , a few people have mentioned that they'd love to use it for stuff other than WW2.

Various things are in the works, including a science fiction game, but I decided to do a "generic" version that also serves as the quick start rules.

The rules are skirmish gaming for 5-8 figures on each side. Games play very quickly and use a combined "kill/suppress" dice mechanic where you immediately know what happened to the bad guy, just by looking at the dice.

The rules cover the basic infantry weapons as well as things as supporting light mortar fire, searching and a "task" system for unexpected challenges.
You also get character skills and a simple Injury table for campaign play.

In essence, this is everything you need to get started on quick, fun skirmish gaming, that will let you dip into a new period with just a few miniatures.

Do note, this is not as comprehensive as "Five Men". The core mechanics are all there, but things like Random events and the full blown campaign tables are not here. This is aimed at being a cheaper intro and a good fit for some quick, casual scenarios.

Got a few Cold War infantry packs sitting around that you never got around to painting?

Always fancied a Vietnam game but don't want to paint a full platoon?

Those old grim, dark future gang figures just sitting on the shelf?

FiveCore is completely compatible with Five Men in Normandy (and it's supplements) and will also form the core for new games and settings historical and futuristic.

Got them too. I probably don't need them since I have Normandy, but I'm a fan of the system so keep 'em coming Weasel. I'm going to break them out for my next modern game.

Appreciate the support!

Part of the benefit of doing FiveCore on it's own is that it'll make easier to do "mini games". Colonial marines vs Space Bugs? US infantry patrols in Afghanistan? Those might be too thin to build an entire game around (or maybe they aren't) but doing a campaign for that, and then use FiveCore as the rules basis seems like a decent way.

Weasel – are there rules for vehicles or is it just infantry?

Weasel08 Jul 2014 4:04 p.m. PST

It's infantry only.

The rationale is that any vehicle you put into a game with 6 or 7 soldiers essentially becomes about said vehicle, so I stayed away from that.

Since i know people want this stuff, I may do an "armoured car/jeep" sort of supplement in the future.

Thanks for the quick reply! I don't have many 15mm vehicles anyway, so the fewer required the better. An APC or similar would be about all each side gets. I prefer an infantry focus.

Working on a supplement that'll have some neat stuff, including generating random armies.

3 forces I just rolled up for a hypothetical conflict in some corner of the world:

Force 1
Special forces attempting to ferment revolution. Their motivation is militant fundamentalism.

Force 2
Separatist resistance fighters bolstered by private security companies.

Force 3
Nationalist conscripted military attempting to keep order.

Seems like a pretty explosive situation if you ask me!

A supplement is available now, to flesh out your experience more

Force Doctrines to further distinquish your forces.

An Army Generator to help set up random forces around the world with their own goals, nature and motivations.

A Military Operation system to generate the overall military action going on in the background.

For players who do not own Five Men in Normandy, this also gives you the Stealth, Demolition, Mine field, Hidden sniper and civilian rules to develop your scenarios further.

There's also a bundle available, to get this and FiveCore for a dollar off.
The Operation rules would be handy for Five Men in Normandy players as well.
