Hello,

I am trying to determine the correct colors to paint the ventral pouches carried by some french artillerymen. 1) The Haythornwhite Osprey depicts a white pouch with white straps, 2) the Perrys website depicts a black pouch with white straps, and 3) another Osprey illustrates both pouch and straps of brown leather. Anybody can solve this mistery?

I recall that Rousselot illustrates a gunner of the ?Young Guard? with a dark brown pouch, with same-colored belt around his waist, just showing below the two-pointed vest. He also wears an oilskin black shako cover, and loose dark-blue overalls tucked inside his knee-high black leggings. My data are all packed away, and perhaps someone on TMP might have the plate with French text describing this figure.

As an aside, I have been giving some extra Victrix 28mm French officers, drummers, eagle bearers such pouches, and converting them to French private men, guerilla-hunting in Spain. A good way to use up the spare figures! I use brown, black, and sometimes a "natural" buff leather to depict them.

I would opt for natural leather as well.

when I was painting an Old Guard battery, I decided to have a mix of black and brown.
