When The Federation joins The Imperium?

It's from a Voyager episode (one of the better ones, at least for humor, with Andy Dick as a new EMH model that's even more annoying than the first one, played by Robert Picardo). The ship is a prototype vessel intended for combat with threats like the Borg and the Dominion. During battle it can divide into two fully capable fighting platforms that can be controlled in tandem for coordinated attacks. I have no comment as to the utility of that (or not), but that's the in-show rationale.

Although I clicked on this link thinking it would be the first vessel from Stargate -SG1.

I think the splitting for "moar power!" is ridiculous.

But I also think that is an awesome looking ship!

And I think it divides into 3 sections…..googling..

I gave up on Voyager early on. No wonder I didn't recognize it.

Three hulls! That's right. I guess the ridiculousness of the idea made my brain rebel at the notion of yet another hull.

Fortunately, it's a deliberately ridiculous episode, so it fits.
