Recently completed a short campaign very loosely based on Poul Anderson's The High Crusade. Here's a pictorial AAR:

Nice game & report, looks like you had great fun! I also like your ideas very much… especially the musical wargames!

Fun report. I well recall that novel, an old favorite of mine. There is one similar to it also – with Napoleonic French soldiers fighting aliens. Cannot remember the name though. Bet someone here will.

"A bastard son of William the Conqueror kidnapped the daughter of an Orkney pirate, thus founding the noble de Tournville family."
I kind of remember my favorite line from the book.grin

One of Anderson's best books, and you did it justice.

And to show the universality of good rules, you use "Outlaws of Sherwood" to fight scifi aliens.
As I recall, the Wersgorix could not melee for crap anyway.

The premise looked so interesting that I immediately went to Amazon to read the reviews and notes. Based on that…I ordered it. So thanks for the heads up. :-)

That was really well done!

The other, somewhat similar novel mentioned above is "The Napoleons of Eridanus" by Pierre Barbet. (French Napoleonic soldiers from 1812 or so abducted to help plan an alien military mission.) Not as good as "High Crusade" in my opinion, but I'm a big Anderson fan.

Thank you, Servo3000, I knew someone would know that answer and come to my rescue. I agree with you, I too preferred High Crusade though the Napoleons of Eridanus was fun too.

that's a great book which iv read many times always considered the possibility of wargaming.. this has definitely given me something to think about .

I just finished it. Fast, fun read, but I was kind of disappointed by the pat ending. I dunno. Maybe, considering how interesting and different the rest of the book was, I expected too much.

There's a David Weber book with a similar theme… The Excalibur Alternative?

EDIT: I wrote that before checking out the blogpost. Very nice work!
