Gents, For those of you using the Blackpowder rules for ACW, do you allow infantry units to use the special "skirmisher" rule? Obviously virtually every infantry formation in the Civil War was proficient at skirmisher drill, but do you find that it takes away from the flow of the game when you allow every unit to field skirmishers? I've played a couple ACW Blackpowder games without using the skirmisher rule and it still seemed to provide a good game with a realistic result. I'm just curious what others are doing. Thanks! BY |

I don't play Blackpowder but it's my understanding that unit scale is fairly abstract (ie, a Unit could be a Regiment, or a Brigade, or whatever), so I'd hazard a guess and say I'd give the ability out based on the scale of the game. -Will |

We didn't use the skirmisher rule and we find it plays just fine without |

No skirmisher rule for me too, and I think BP is loads of fun. |

We have used skirmish rules only for specific units. If the scenario called for a pickett line or for dimounted cav. |

Wminsing, in its introductory pages the BP rulebook asserts that units represent infantry battalions and cavalry regiments, but this definition is then casually disregarded in the Zulu War scenario which uses the company as its basic manoeuvre element. |

Yes we tend to have specific units told off for skirmishing represented as skirmish bases
