Hi All, Not exactly tack and probably a fairly stupid question. I have some AB Chasseurs to paint and they have a rolled up blanket poking out from under the front of the shabraque. Am I right in assuming grey or black? Or should they be some other colour? Thanks Malc |

It could be the end of a holster in which case it would be brass. If it is definitely a roll then you can paint it dark green to represent their rolled up cloaks unless these are modelled elsewhere in which case I would use grey. |

If it's pointed, it may be a pistol holster. But more likely it's a rolled greatcoat, in which case it would be green. |

Hi It's definitely not a pistol holster – so green it is! Thanks for your assistance! Malc |

That is weird – I thought the sheepskin covered the expensive pistol holders and their lace work. Never knew it was another blanket. |

Hey Marc, Think about it. If you were a Napoleonic cavalryman, could you get everything you needed into that little valise on the back of the saddle? Even a spare pair of boots wouldn't fit. So it was pretty common for men to stuff things underneath the front of the shabraque, rolled up in a greatcoat or blanket. Now, how they got to their pistols with all the extra kit there, I do not know. |

Just look at the illustration above. There is no way that huge bulge is just the front of the saddle and a couple of pistols. |
