Assuming the technology of the day, TMP would have been some mail group. So, yes – by the exchange of hard copy letters. I'm in Australia. I assume that you aren't. So every 3 months or so (as the ship travels)I could read and respond to your letter.

But WAS it good press? Time's Man of the Year isn't necessarily a good thing, as any number of despots and Bad Men have been featured as such. I think they say that it represents somebody who affects the world in a big way, not the best dude of all the dudes. To be specific, "the Person of the Year (formerly Man of the Year) is an annual issue of the United States newsmagazine Time that features and profiles a person, group, idea or object that "for better or for worse…has done the most to influence the events of the year"."

I think that's a modern interpretation of 'Man of the Year'. At the time it was considered positive.

He did get the trains running on time. Alas what he did with them once they got running, was inexcusabke.

That tie also tones really well with his shirt and complexion.

I presume the Alsation is Blondis predecessor.

The article itself is not exactly flattering, more of a he made everyone in Europe look like chumps sort of vibe.

"Today I received a telegram from the editor, informing me that I had been placed in some sort of kennel. Apparently some comments I made, purely in jest, regarding Signor Mussolini, had been taken poorly by some of his enthusiasts on The Miniatures Papers."

Dear Howard

If you were in it you would not be able to post here. I think that your name has been taken in vain by the computer.

TMP in 1938, eh? No WWII boards yet and a few ACW vets still around to set us straight. But postings would require each of us to go to the Dear Editor's (blessings be upon him) house and post scraps of paper on a bulletin board. A bit tough for our comrades in Oz, but it can't be helped.

Zephyr103 Jul 2014 2:32 p.m. PST

That "Man of the Year" looks constipated….

Centurian03 Jul 2014 4:15 p.m. PST

I'm not sure about the ACW vets, but there would be plenty of WWI, and perhaps even some from the Russo-Japanese War. Their views would be interesting!

Don't forget Pulp Gaming either: Roaring 20's and Prohibition stories would be recent history.

Howard – one of the funniest things I've read on here in a long time.

Walter White03 Jul 2014 11:48 p.m. PST

The term "stifle" had a whole different meaning in 1938 -- something a little more permanent than it is today, methinks.
