That Lady Stoneheart aka Zombie Catelyn Stark will not be in Season 5. One more "beloved" character thrown under the HBO bus! The actress and showrunners have said that's it for Cat. (She 'a done enough damage apparently.) I think those sneaky bastards will do it anyway. How many scenes does she need anyway? A day or two should do it. Michelle can take a week off from acting and no one would be any wiser. |

That's too bad. Lady Stoneheart has some of the best dialogue in the series. |

I glazed over her parts in the book (4? Was she in 5) and didnt really lik the character. But I keep seeing topics like this and wish I hadn't thrown all my books in a plastic bag and dumped them off at a thrift store after begrudgingly reading the last 80 or so pages of 5 (after something stupid happened that made me swear I wouldn't read any more of that
That
. Author but I probably will

Those who "have Read the Books"™ have an obligation to act in outrage when HBO diverges from the Sacred Texts. Just like Lord of the Rings. (But NOT like Last of the Mohicans, where everybody (including Mark Twain) acknowledges that the book sucks, but the Daniel Day Lewis movie is one of the greatest movies ever made.) What is interesting is that we are developing 2 "canons" for the Song. One where Rob marries Jeyne Westerling and has written a will legitimizing Jon Snow, and Jeyne's mum is an evil bitch. Where Coldhands guides Bran. Where Lady Stoneheart is a force for Stark vengeance. And another where they cut out Tom Bombadil with little or no remorse. |

So did she actually get resurrected in Season 4? |

Sorry, nobody here gives out GoT spoilers. Pay for HBO. |

I prefer when dead characters stay dead. Except maybe Gandalf. |

Where is this stated she wont be in season 5? It has already been talked about that she wasn't in season 4 and there was no plan for her even in the season finale. I haven't yet seen anywhere that says she will not be in S5. Link please. I was waiting all damn S4 for her. Grimm |

I prefer when dead characters stay dead. Except maybe Gandalf. The speech that Gandalf gives Pippin in The Return of the King about death not being so bad gets me every damn time. THERES SOMETHING IN MY EYE IS ALL! |

Ironically Martin has said that bringing Gandalf back from the dead was the worst thing in LOTR. |
Goonfighter | 03 Jul 2014 4:51 a.m. PST |
I think that comment says it all. Gandalfs return had a message of hope that good was not forsaken and that there was some powers behind the fight against sauron (even if due to excessive oversight they had to use deniable operatives at arms length :-). In Martins world there is no such message and the bodies of the innocent are stacked up. It's more realistic but also very bleak – and that's not really why I read fantasy books. |

Gandalf didn't die, He gained enough experience points when he killed the Balrog(tm) to go up a level. |
Tacitus | 03 Jul 2014 9:08 a.m. PST |
Absolutely! Gandalf simply leveled-up. I myself, never cared for zombie Cat. No loss to the HBO series. |

I haven't read the books and am not sure I really want to wade in now. Also am a season behind on the HBO show but I don't care about spoilers. When I heard that she was brought back that sounded to me like a really cool character, but now I've heard that Martin has done practically nothing with her. Now I'm more disappointed with his apparent failure than I am with HBO. |

He doesn't do anything with any of the characters after the first 3 books. |

Altfritz: Don't miss out on the books because of a bit gripping on the Miniature page. You will miss a fantastic read (far superior to the not-bad HBO serias.) Both good and bad die in the books and both good and bad have success. And at heart Martin is a romantic a theme which slips through the books in ways too sutuble for some (this aspect is missed out by his more cynical compititors). If you start now you may not have to endure the waits between books the rest of us do (causing endless but at least more justified gripping
) TomT |

He doesn't do anything with any of the characters after the first 3 books. True. GRRM lost his way about midway through Book 3 and never found it again. If he had stuck with his original trilogy approach it would have been a really great series. As it is, it started out strong and loses steam too early. |

Books 4 & 5 are excellent. They're a bit too heavily draped in tweests, but the characterisation and etc. is still superb. Just remember that they were supposed to be a time-skip, and have instead become a chance for GRRM to explore the breakdown of order that came after the War of the Five Kings while getting the characters to be where he wanted them to be when the full-pace story resumes. Also the big battles and climactic events had to be pushed from ADWD for various reasons (including that they physically could not have bound the book). The preview chapters for WoW are fantastic, Mercy in particular. I defy you to read that and remain pessimistic about the direction of the books, they've got some nice stuff coming through. |
