I received an email from Miniature Market today heralding terrain from Novus Design. There was a link which I clicked and it took me to the Novus Design page of products at Miniature Market. Someone (most likely Tango01) had posted a topic on the Metal Theatre a few weeks ago, and I had admired the look of the building and wondered if I would have the opportunity to acquire one. I was considering purchasing one, when I noticed the following photo:
This is the view of the back of the theatre. My eyes were drawn to the areas I have outlined with rectangles on the bottom of the piece, and then to the detail on the upper part that also has a rectangle around it. The "panels" on the bottom are actually the skirts or sides from a Tamiya 1/35 scale Bradley IFV and the detail at the top appears to be the dish from a radar from the SGT York. This is supposed to be a roughly 28mm terrain piece. I feel that when companies do something like this that it is extremely lazy because, seriously, how difficult could it be to actually make panels. I am sure that they have made use of other detail from other kits and I feel it is so disappointing. I know, manufacturers have used detail from other manufacturers, like some of the detail on Star Wars models, but it is still sad. What do you all think? |

Dunno. Consider all of Star Wars models were made from something else – massed numbers of tank and ship kits were cannibalized into iconic ships like the Millennium Falcon and the X-Wing. Billions have been made from those, but the companies that made the T-62 widget on the Star Destroyer never got anything. I think it falls to a question of percentage. In this case, we are talking something that doesn't immediately suggest its source and it doesn't seek to pass itself off as its source. It doesn't mean no one is buying the Tamiya Bradleys anymore either. Shrug. This is a personal judgement call. To each their own. |
